Science

Draft 2 of the proposed K-12 Science survey will be open until this Sunday, March 26th at 11:59pm. Per the NCSCOS Internal Manual, there is only an all-stakeholder survey. There is NOT a PSU specific survey but PSUs are encouraged to support all educators to participate. Here is a link to the survey: Second Draft of the Proposed 2023 K-12 Science Standards

Once the survey closes on Sunday, the analysis process will begin with a review of the data by the Office of Learning Recovery and then the Data Review Committee will complete its report and recommendations for the Standards Writing Team. The current intention is to present a 3rd Draft of proposed standards to the State Board of Education at the June meeting for discussion and a final reading and approval at the July meeting.

The team has already begun using feedback obtained so far to begin preparing unpacking documents, instructional planning support documents, communication plans, and looking at ways to host online resources.

Healthful Living

The Healthful Living Standards Writing Team (SWT) has completed the initial draft of the Healthful Living Standards and Objectives after reviewing the recommendations of the Data Review Committee (DRC). The initial draft is being built into a survey that will be shared with the field by the end of April for comment and review.  Once published, it will be available for 30 days.

World Languages

As of January 27th, the applications for the World Languages Data Review Committee (DRC) are closed.  An internal DPI team reviewed applications and notified selected members in mid-February.  The DRC will meet in late March to review data, research, legislation, policy, and other state standards and develop their recommendations for revision.

Arts

As of March 15, all Arts Standards Review surveys have been closed. The Data Review Committee is undergoing selection and verification. The DRC will meet in mid-May to review data, research, legislation, policy, and other state standards to develop their recommendation for revision.

Guidance

The PSU and Stakeholders surveys, as well as the Data Review Committee (DRC) applications closed in February.   An interdisciplinary team of consultants reviewed the DRC applications and made recommendations for the DRC team selection.   Notifications will be sent to the proposed DRC team by March 23rd.

ACCESS Testing Data Validation Training

All PSUs who participate in ACCESS testing are required to complete data validation during the window of April 4th through April 17th. During this time period, PSUs comb through data to ensure all records are correct.  During this window, PSUs can review student records in WIDA AMS to identify demographic errors and make real-time corrections.  View training, slides, and Q&A for data validation.

The NCDPI ML/Title III team is required to collect and report a variety of information from Public School Units (PSUs) to the U.S. Department of Education, NC State Board of Education, and the NCDPI leadership. To streamline this process, NCDPI has combined these collections into one survey. All PSUs are required to complete this survey between May 1 - June 1, 2023.  The Team has created a document with step-by-step instructions that will help you prepare for and complete the survey.  The EOY PD will open in PowerSchool on May 1st. Please encourage PSUs to start preparing now.

CCRG

CCCRG

At the most recent curriculum leaders meeting in Pinehurst, NC at the NCASCD Conference, DPI Staff mentioned that the optional CCRG Survey for Curriculum Leaders, Teachers, and Students would be sent out to Curriculum Leaders and CCRG Leads at the beginning of March. DPI also noted that districts will determine how best to distribute the survey to students. A sample parent letter will be provided so that districts have a guide for communicating the survey intent to parents/students. DPI is still in the process of finalizing these surveys and our projected date to email the surveys to Curriculum Leaders and CCRG Leads is now mid-April. In addition, DPI will have the survey open for 30 days instead of the 15 days that was originally communicated. Please note these surveys would be completely optional.

This partnership provides reliable information on your high school graduates’ college transition rates that also allows you to compare your rates to those of similar schools across the country, including those serving low income and minority students and compare your high schools to national averages. For more information about NSC in NC please see our January 2023 presentation to the State Board of Education.

Office of Learning Recovery & Acceleration

PSU-level Recover Reports

The Office of Learning Recovery and Acceleration has worked with the EVAAS Team at SAS to prepare PSU-level Recovery Reports for the 2021-22 school year.  This data goes beyond how many students met grade level proficiency and presents the difference between where we expected students to perform and how they actually performed. This report includes 2018 as a reference for "business as usual" and effect size graphs comparing 2021 and 2022 to provide an estimate of "magnitude of recovery." A message from SAS was sent to all EVAAS District Admins with instructions about how to request their PSU 2021-22 Report.

NCDPI and the EVAAS Team will be providing a “deep dive” webinar on understanding those reports on April 18 at Noon and again on April 24 at 11am. Be on the lookout for the Save the Date!!
