Lottery, Enrollment, and Wait List Survey - Action Needed
The Office of Charter Schools
surveys schools annually to fulfill data requests by the General Assembly.
Please submit your survey response by Friday, November 10, 2017 to reflect
your school's lottery, enrollment, and current wait list information for 2017-18 school year.
All schools must submit an entry
and all fields are required. Please note that we understand that these numbers
fluctuate. The intent of this request is to capture a moment in time. Please

Training Opportunity
Board members from charter schools that are opening in 2018 are required to attend 5 face-to-face Planning Year Sessions from September to January. The school leader and some of the board members are also required to attend the New Charter School Leaders Institute in June.
As a customer service, the Office of Charter Schools continues to open up these sessions to all charter schools. If you have a new school leader and/or a new board member interested in attending any of the sessions, he or she must register to attend. Please note the schedule below:
Registration is now open for the November session. Registration ends on Sunday, November 12th. Please use this link to register.

NC Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI) Updates
NC Prayer Certification and Single Set of Assurances due in CCIP by October 27th, 2017 - Only for Charters the Have or Plan to Submit a Title I Application
The
NC Prayer Certification and Single Set of Assurances must
be uploaded into the Comprehensive Continuous Improvement Plan (CCIP) by
October 1st of each year.
As a condition of receiving federal funds,
each LEA and charter school must certify in writing to the State educational
agency that no policy of the local educational agency or charter school
prevents, or otherwise denies participation in, constitutionally protected
prayer in public elementary schools.
If you have not uploaded the document into
the Consolidated Related Documents section of CCIP, please do so by no later
than close of business on Friday,
October 27, 2017. The document may only be uploaded when
the status of the Funding Application is at Draft (or Revision) Started, so you
might have to request the Program Administrator return it to you.
State Board of Education Holds Planning/Work Session and Monthly Meeting Next Week (Oct. 31-Nov. 2)
The State Board of Education will hold its biannual planning and work
session and monthly meeting next week, Oct. 31 – Nov. 2, in Raleigh.
On Tuesday, board members will hold their biannual planning and work session
from 11:30 a.m. – 4 p.m., in the Engineering Building II, Centennial Campus,
North Carolina State University, Raleigh. (Public
parking is available on Partners Way.) Following a working lunch, members
will receive an overview of the session and deliverables then presentations on
Building an Equitable Education System, Financial Context, Teaching and
Learning, and conclude with a debriefing. The planning/work session will be
audio streamed and the link to listen is available at the bottom of that day’s meeting
agenda.
On Wednesday, board members continue their biannual planning and work
session at the same location as Tuesday’s meeting. The board will meet from 9
a.m. – 4:30 p.m. (Public
parking is available on Partners Way.) Members will receive presentations
on Student Support Services and Issues; Preparing Teachers for the Classroom;
DPI Service Delivery Structure, Legislative Agenda and Strategic Plan; and
conclude with a recap and discussion of next steps. The planning/work session
will be audio streamed and the link to listen is available at the bottom of
that day’s meeting
agenda.
Board members will hold their regular monthly meeting on Thursday from 9
a.m. – 1:15 p.m., in the 7th Floor Board Room, Education Building,
301 N. Wilmington Street, Raleigh. The agenda for this meeting and executive
summaries are available online
(under Meetings tab). Please note that Board members will discuss all agenda
items and take action as appropriate.
The State Board’s regular meeting will be audio

Still Time to Present at the Connecting Communities of Education
Stakeholders Conference
The Collaborative Conference for Student Achievement and the Home
Base Symposium have combined to become the Connecting Communities of
Education Stakeholders conference with the potential to reach more North
Carolina education stakeholders than ever before!
In addition to Concurrent and Poster Sessions (75 minutes each), conference
staff are debuting Operational Sessions. These 45-minute sessions promise to
provide participants ready to use new skills by the end of the session.
Proposals can only be submitted through the CCES web page. Please click the link at the
bottom of the CCES Proposal web page to access the proposal submission form.
Remember … Oct. 31 is the deadline to submit a proposal.
Don’t miss out on sharing your message with the expected 2,000 conference

been adding evidences and making learning status determinations throughout the
first 60 days, and now teachers use their professional knowledge to review all
the learning statuses and make final Status Summary determinations. This
