Upcoming CCS Parent Advisory Council Meeting
The Exceptional Children's November Parent Advisory Council meeting will be held on Monday, November 20 from 5:00-6:30 p.m. in the Board Room of the Central Services building, located at 2465 Gillespie Street, Fayetteville, NC 28306. Cumberland County Schools' Compliance Team will be sharing helpful information about IEPs and the re-evaluation process.

Nov. 20 Committed CommUNITY Chat with Dr. Connelly in the Westover Attendance Area

Join Dr. Connelly during his next Committed CommUNITY Chat, which takes place in the Westover Attendance Area on Monday, November 20 from 6:30-8:00 p.m. in the cafeteria at Ben Martin Elementary School. The Superintendent is looking forward to engaging in open dialogue with you about the future of the district. Looking ahead, the Committed CommUNITY Chat on Monday, November 27 will take place from 6:30-8:00 p.m. in the Terry Sanford High School Auditorium. Pausing to 'Give Thanks'

In observance of the Thanksgiving holiday, Wednesday, November 22 is a Student Holiday/Telework Workday. Student/All-Staff Holidays will be observed on Thursday, November 23 and Friday, November 24.

2024 NC Superintendent of the Year 

Join the Cumberland County School family in congratulating CCS Superintendent Dr. Marvin Connelly, Jr.  At the North Carolina Association of School Administrators conference in Greensboro on Nov. 14, he was honored as the 2024 North Carolina Superintendent of the Year!!! The Surprise Welcome Home Indoor Parade for Dr. Connelly

Catherine LeCleir-Salas, CCS' Exceptional Children's Instructional Specialist, K–5, was recently honored as a 2023 K–12 Hero Awards Finalist. The designation reecognizes her dedication and outstanding efforts. One of LeCleir-Salas' significant contributions has been the implementation of the Science of Reading-based S.P.I.R.E. reading intervention program across all 51 schools within the Cumberland County district which has benefited more than 49,000 students. Her commitment to professional development for educators led her to provide comprehensive in-person and virtual training for the S.P.I.R.E. implementation, ensuring that teachers were well-equipped to implement the program effectively. This approach has yielded remarkable results, with a teacher participation rate ranging from 85% to 90% for multiple school years and students showing meaningful progress.

Congratulations to Sade Mangum, a teacher at Seventy-First High School and the district's 2024 Beginning Teacher of the Year! She was recently honored by TV Reporter Brian Schrader as WRAL’s Teacher Of The Week. He surprised Mangum during her 2nd-period class with a plaque and goodies for her students.

The fifth graders at District 7 Elementary in Teacher Becky Walker's class recently conducted experiments in radiation, conduction and convection during their science class known as “Walker’s Wacky Lab!”
