Hello, neighbors! Friday, July 4, is a Town holiday. While most Town offices will be closed, you can spend the evening with us at our fireworks celebration at Southern Village. In other news, parking is free downtown on the weekends in July, there's a new way to report things like potholes and street signs down, and the survey to get your feedback about future uses of 828 Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd. closes next Thursday. |

Service Alerts and Fireworks Celebration
Most Town offices will be closed. We'd love to see you at our July 4th fireworks celebration from 7 to 9:45 p.m. at Southern Community Park. Parking will fill up, but Chapel Hill Transit will run a shuttle from UNC's Jackson Parking Deck to the Southern Village Park and Ride lot.

|
|
Please also plan for service and facility changes that include:
- Library will be closed
- Transit will not operate (except for the fireworks shuttle)
- Residential trash pickup will not be affected.

Parking is Free Downtown in July
On Saturdays in July, make your way downtown with no worry about paying for parking. Grab a bite to eat, visit your favorite coffee shop, or take a walk on campus! Town-operated parking is free. Not sure what lots are included? Check out parkonthehill.com. (Sundays are always free!)

Updates from Solid Waste
As of July 1, some of our Solid Waste services are different:
- We're no longer renting out large yard trimmings dumpsters, and yard trimming carts will now be $75 per cart.
- You can place up to five Town yard trimming carts, paper bags, or personal cans curbside for collection each week.
- We'll pick up piles of loose limbs and brush that are three cubic yards or less at no charge. Piles bigger than that will still cost $125 per truckload.

First Open Chapel Hill Day a Success!
Thank you, Chapel Hill! We had a great time meeting you and giving you an inside look at our day-to-day work at Open Chapel Hill Day. We registered people for our e-bike lending library, gave a first-hand look at how K9 Mando does his job, showed what it's like for our firefighters to respond to a call, and more! We can't wait to see you next year.

Super Summer Fun Club is our school-age, camp-themed, library adventure club. It's part of the library's summer reading program but only in July. We welcome kids ages 6-12 for a variety of super fun indoor and outdoor activities, such as t-shirt making and a field day. Each session requires registration, so make sure you sign up now!

Three new art installations make up our latest round of storm drain murals, painted by artists nonperishable, Sam Greene, and Void Vicious. The murals are a collaboration between Community Arts & Culture and Stormwater Management, meant to educate the community about our water systems and how we can better care for our environment.

Support the Library with Used Books
It's easier than ever to donate your gently used books with the Friends of the Chapel Hill Public Library book drop. Look for it near the checkout stations during library hours. Do you have more to give? All book and puzzle donations are accepted on Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays at the donation drop-off located in the staff parking lot.

New Way to Report Potholes and More
Starting Tuesday, July 1, we'll have a new way for you to report things such as potholes, downed street signs, and traffic signal issues. It's called "Resident Reporter." Much like SeeClickFix, you can find the address of your concern (or turn on location services on your phone) and select the problem. This new platform features a "Most Common Requests" option to make it easier to report the most requested issues.

Greene Tract Update
At their June 18 meeting, Council voted to rezone parts of the Greene Tract and adopted text amendments that will allow "by-right" development of the approved master plan. "By-right" means that Town staff will review future applications for compliance and Council shouldn't have to approve additional rezonings.
