Together with the Town of Carrboro, spend the afternoon with us celebrating Juneteenth at Carrboro Town Commons. Juneteenth Celebration and Service Changes
Celebrate Juneteenth with the Towns of Chapel Hill and Carrboro on Thursday, June 19 from 4 - 8 p.m. Join us at Carrboro Town Commons for live performances, history exhibits, and a market with art vendors and nonprofits. Enjoy local food, music, dancing, and a Kids Zone for the little ones. NOTE: It is going to be HOT. Drink lots of water, take breaks while you're enjoying the festivities, and know the signs of heat illness.

Most Town offices will also be closed in observance of the holiday. These are highlights for service and facility changes:
Trash Collection
- Residential trash pickup will not be affected.
- Crews will not collect yard trimmings on Thursday, June 19. There's no make-up day.
Chapel Hill Transit will run Sunday Service, except that FCX and NS will run weekday service. There will be no service from Chatham or Jones Ferry Park and Rides.
Chapel Hill Public Library will be closed.
Parks and Recreation
- Facilities open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.: Homestead Aquatic Center, Community Center and pool, Nate Davis Sr. Gymnasium, and A.D. Clark outdoor pool

Town Council Adopts FY26 Budget
At their June 18 meeting, Council adopted the Interim Manager's Recommended Budget for Fiscal Year 2025-26. Understand the budget at a glance here.
Highlights include:
- $300,000 for deferred facilities maintenance and street resurfacing
- $150,000 in new funding to continue to address vehicle replacement needs
- $413,615 for the increasing cost of doing business and operating efficiencies
- Property tax rate of 50 cents per $100 of assessed valuation

Open Chapel Hill Day is June 28
We’re inviting Chapel Hill community members of all ages to learn and connect with their local government on Open Chapel Hill Day – Saturday, June 28 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. It’s a Townwide open house featuring facility tours, fun activities, and a chance to meet Town staff. This event features a bus tour that stops at each facility every 20 minutes for anyone who wants to sit back and relax!

The Chapel Hill Police Department has received reports of scammers impersonating an investigator who threatens to shut the recipient’s power off. This is a scam. We will never call anyone about their power bill.

APPROVAL OF FISCAL YEAR 2025-26 TOWN BUDGET
Council voted 5-2 to approve the Manager’s Recommended Budget for Fiscal Year 2025-26.
MODIFICATION TO THE HISTORIC ROGERS ROAD NEIGHBORHOOD DISTRICT
Council voted 7-0 to amend the Land Use Management Ordinance (LUMO) to better achieve the goals of the Historic Rogers Road Community.
CONVENTIONAL REZONING FOR 1900 PUREFOY DRIVE
Council voted 7-0 to approve the rezoning of 1900 Purefoy Drive to Housing and Employment Mixed-Use Subdistrict (HR-X).
CONDITIONAL ZONING FOR 11 WHITE OAK DRIVE
Council voted 5-2 to approve a conditional zoning application to rezone 11 White Oak Drive to from Residential-1 to Residential-6-CZD.
Council will meet on Wednesday, June 25, at Chapel Hill Town Hall for a regular meeting. The agenda will be published by the end of the week.
