Juneteenth Celebration and Service Changes
Celebrate Juneteenth with the Towns of Chapel Hill and Carrboro on Thursday, June 19 from 4 - 8 p.m. Join us at Carrboro Town Commons for live performances, history exhibits, and a market with art vendors and nonprofits. Enjoy local food, music, dancing, and a Kids Zone for the little ones.

Most Town offices will also be closed in observance of the holiday. These are highlights for service and facility changes:
Trash Collection
- Residential trash pickup will not be affected.
- Crews will not collect yard trimmings. There's no make-up day.
Chapel Hill Transit will run Sunday Service, except that FCX and NS will run weekday service. There will be no service from Chatham or Jones Ferry Park and Rides.
Parks and Recreation
- Facilities open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.: Homestead Aquatic Center, Community Center and pool, Nate Davis Sr. Gymnasium, and A.D. Clark outdoor pool

Council Member Stegman to Leave Seat June 27
Chapel Hill Town Council Member Karen Stegman plans to leave her Council seat on June 27, 2025. "My family has moved forward with plans to live in Carrboro in a home we have owned and rented out for a while," Stegman said in a personal message to the community Tuesday morning. "This decision comes after deep reflection and with immense gratitude for the opportunity to serve the community that has shaped me." Stegman has served two terms on the Town Council since 2017.

Dribble for Victory Youth Basketball Leagues
Do you have a basketball-loving kid between 10 and 18? Tell them about this program! Kids aged 10-12, 13-15, or 16-18 form their own competitive dream teams and compete from late June to mid-August. Teams will play a regular season schedule through mid-August and then unleash their skills in an exclusive single-elimination Championship Week tournament. See you on the court!

Kick Off Summer Reading With Us
Come party with us at Family Fun Friday on June 13 at the library. Enjoy live music from Pierce Freelon, games, food trucks, and fun for the whole family as we kick off Summer Reading. We'll have yard games, chalk, bubbles, giant Jenga, and more. Register for summer reading while you're there and grab a tasty treat from All on Top Dogs and Maple View Farm Ice Cream.

Open Chapel Hill Day is June 28
We’re inviting Chapel Hill community members to learn and connect with their local government on Open Chapel Hill Day – Saturday, June 28 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. It’s a Townwide open house featuring facility tours, fun activities, and a chance to meet Town staff. Anyone is welcome to participate at their own pace.

Comment on OWASA's FY26 Budget and Rate Increase
OWASA's proposed fiscal year 2026 budget includes critical investments in our community's infrastructure, including:
- A treatment facility to reduce PFAS compounds in drinking water
- A new clearwell to ensure complete disinfection of the community's drinking water

Walk Audit: Homestead Road
Join our Vision Zero team on a walk audit of a portion of Homestead Rd. on Tuesday, June 17, from 2 to 3 p.m. A walk audit allows us to gather on-the-ground knowledge of safety concerns that cyclists and pedestrians face so that we can find potential improvements.
