DHSS UPDATES
► Director’s Message, 5/29/2026
► Legislative Summary: Daniel Bogle put together a summary of Missouri's legislative session that ended in May.
► Naloxone Standing Orders have been updated.
► Ebola Update: Talking points from CDC have been added to the Hub Home page under Hot Topics and on the Communications page. These are intended to be used by public health agencies to respond to public and media inquiries. They should not be posted on websites or social media channels or shared publicly.
► Hantavirus: Missouri is not currently monitoring anyone related to the Hantavirus outbreak on the cruise ship. Five U.S. travelers were able to leave UNMC this week to continue their 42-day quarantine at home under specific restrictions.
► World Cup Vaccine Awareness Campaign: The goal of the campaign is to mobilize Missourians to review their immunization records and consult healthcare providers so they can safely enjoy the historic festivities without disruption. Campaign messaging reframes a medical task as an essential part of the "pre-game ritual." Instead of relying on fear, the messaging taps into the excitement of the games, urging residents to protect themselves so they don't miss the biggest party the region has ever hosted. Additional information about the campaign and turnkey social media assets are now available for your use.
► WIC Special Infant Formula Transition: WIC policy clarifies that state agencies must coordinate with Medicaid for the provision of exempt infant formulas and medical foods. Agencies must collaborate with any federal, state, local or private program that can provide or reimburse special formulas for shared participants. Beginning July 1, Missouri WIC will begin referring infants and children who require special formulas to MO HealthNet when they are eligible. Approximately 75% of affected WIC participants—around 6,000 infants and children—are expected to be MO HealthNet‑eligible. Those eligible but not yet enrolled will continue receiving WIC‑approved special formula until MO HealthNet coverage is active or denied. Participants denied MO HealthNet will continue receiving special formula through WIC. No currently eligible infant or child will lose coverage due to this change. Redirecting medically required formula coverage to MO HealthNet is projected to shift roughly $7 million away from special formula costs and back into WIC’s core food package and contract-brand formula benefits. This redirection will preserve WIC food benefits, ensuring availability for all eligible applicants and preventing the need for a priority system.

There will also be multiple places where users can find connection information for a local health department near them. An update was provided on this week's LPHA Update Call.
► CMV, or Cytomegalovirus, is a common virus that affects people of all ages and is typically harmless, but it can cause severe health complications to an unborn baby if contracted by the mother during pregnancy. It is spread through direct contact with body fluids such as saliva or urine. Here are some resources to help share information with those at highest risk.
