► 4/8/2026: Missouri lawmakers propose cutting tens of millions of dollars in services for people with disabilities as they brace for federal funding cuts. (link)
► 4/8/2026: State lawmakers hold a public hearing for a proposed constitutional amendment that would add a work requirement for Missouri's Medicaid program, MO HealthNet. (link)
► 4/7/2026: Rural Health Transformation: CMS approves $216 million for Missouri’s year 1 budget under the RHTP. The funding launches full implementation of the ToRCH program in Missouri. (link)
► 4/6/2026: Legislation that recently cleared the Missouri House Special Committee on Rural Issues would grant MU Health Care antitrust immunity without oversight and the ability to purchase hospitals in 25 counties around Columbia. (link)
OPPORTUNITIES
► Grant Opportunity: The Vilcek Foundation is accepting applications through April 30 from eligible nonprofit organizations whose mission or programs focus on supporting immigrant contributions in the arts, sciences, culture, and society. Grant awards will range from $5,000 - $20,000 and work must be completed Sept 1, 2026 – Aug 31, 2027. (link)
► AHEC Rural Immersion Program: This four-day program offers health professions students interested in living and working in a rural area a non-clinical experience designed to highlight the social and communal aspects of rural life. Through group activities and meetings with community leaders, participants preview life as a rural healthcare professional. Students learn about four key sectors: business and government, education, natural resources, and of course, healthcare. This year, the experience will take place in Northwest Missouri. This experience is limited to 20 students. Housing and a stipend are provided. Learn more and submit an application if interested. (link)
► Communications Course: Harvard Chan School of Public Health offers a six-week online Public Health Communication and Advocacy program with a focus on building trust and influence for better results. The session starts May 21 and includes a capstone project. Tuition is $1,785. (link)

► Apr 21, 2:00 pm, Public Health Perseverance: Learning from past challenges to inform the future, hosted by County Health Rankings and Roadmaps. Public health has long faced moments of resistance, partisan pressure and public distrust. Yet throughout history, the field has continued to respond, evolve and adapt. Take a look back at periods when public health experienced significant pushback and explore how leaders and institutions responded at the time. Register
► Apr 28 - 30, Virtual Training Academy, hosted by DHSS BEHS. This live session runs 9:00 – 11:00 am and 1:30 – 3:00 pm with an extended lunch hour. Content will include environmental fundamentals, emergency response, and programs. The session will not be recorded. The target audience is new Environmental Health Specialists (EHS) with three years or less on-the-job experience, but seasoned inspectors and administrators are welcome to attend. Before the session, please read the relevant sections of the Environmental Health Operational Guidelines (EHOG). Download and print any relevant forms you may need to reference from the EHOG Appendix. Familiarize yourself with additional resource materials. ► Apr 30, 8:30 am - 4:30 pm, 2026 Rural Health Workforce Summit, hosted by the Missouri Rural Health Association at the Roy Blunt Center for Integration and Innovation, 3450 W. Edgewood Drive in Jefferson City. Explore practical, proven strategies for building workplaces where people feel valued, supported, and inspired to stay. Registration also includes an interactive afternoon workshop focused on leading with engagement, inviting participants to practice tools that strengthen recognition, responsiveness, and reflection within their teams. ► May 28, 12:00 - 1:00 pm, A Systems Approach to Preparing the Health Workforce for Social Determinants of Health, hosted by University of Missouri. This seminar offers a forward-thinking exploration of how the health workforce can be better prepared to address social determinants of health (SDOH) through coordinated, multisector action. Register
► Sep 9 – 10, Fall Preparedness Summit, in Jefferson City, hosted by DHSS’ Office of Emergency Coordination with the Public Health Emergency Preparedness (PHEP) Program and the Hospital Preparedness Program (HPP). This will replace the traditional Fall Planners Meeting. Location, detailed agenda, and session times are being finalized, but attendees can expect engaging sessions on emergency preparedness and networking opportunities with partners across the state. Additional details, including a registration link, will be shared closer to the date.
