Missouri is Celebrating Energy Awareness Month and Weatherization Day

October is Energy Awareness Month and October 30th is Weatherization Day. According to The National Association for State Community Services Programs (NASCSP) The Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) supports thousands of local businesses, including manufacturers, supply chain vendors, and professional contractors. This program provides a marketplace for innovation and new product development in the energy efficiency industry nationwide. The WAP is a pioneer in deploying technology and facilitating greater industry adoption of more efficient and effective practices and tools. Through these tools, WAP continues to define residential energy upgrade work as a distinct and professional industry and as a desirable and sensible product for consumers. Over 88% of materials used for WAP are American made.

To help celebrate Energy Awareness Month, Weatherization Day, and the 40th Anniversary of the Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) Missouri has several events planned throughout the state. Check out the list below to see events happening near you. 

Missouri Weatherization Day Events:

  1. Thu 10/20/16 – 10 am - 252 S. Thayer Ave West Plains/OAI – Wx. Demo at home prev. wxd with pre and post wx. utility data to compare  - Proclamation
  2. Thu 10/20/16 –10 am - Joplin/ESC –  40 Years of Wx.  Then and now, Proclamation and Wx. home demo - blower door test                      
  3. Fri 10/21/16 – 1 pm - Poplar Bluff/SCMCAA - Proclamation presented by Mayor - Featured Speaker will be client whose home was weatherized
  4. Sat 10/22/16 – Kirksville/CAPNEMO – CAPNEMO will promote Weatherization/distribute Wx. material at the Truman Homecoming Parade - Kirksville
  5. Mon 10/24/16 – 1pm - Jefferson City/Missouri CAN – EHPA meeting 1-4 pm at Missouri Community Action Network - 2014 William St. Jeff City, MO – Weatherization Network meeting with subgrantees and DED-DE     
  6. Tue 10/25/16 – 9 am –  JC Capitol Plaza/DED-DE – WAP technical updates and training 9:00 am to 3:30 pm at Capitol Plaza Convention Center - Jefferson City   
  7. Wed 10/26/16 – 5 pm JC Capitol Plaza/DED-DE– Weatherization Network Service Awards Banquet doors open at 5pm (see attached banquet agenda & below)                               
  8. Wed 10/26/16 – 8:30 am – JC Capitol Plaza/DED-DE – WAP Administrative updates and training from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm at Capitol Plaza   
  9. Thu 10/27/16 – Jefferson City/Missouri CAN –  Keeping Missourian’s Warm meeting TBA           
  10. Thu 10/27/16 –  Hannibal/NECAC  –  Wx. Demo at home and Mayor proclamation 
  11. Fri 10/28/16 –  St. Charles/NECAC –  Wx. Demo at home and Mayor proclamation     
  12. Fri 10/28/16  – Urban League Grandel Square –  Energy Conservation/WX Day Celebration- Contractors Meeting-Fruit of WX (Welcome/Into of staff/contractors/political leaders/client testimonials/proclamation-pre & post weatherization educational sessions, landlord & energy saving forums, Dr. Energy, kid’s corner, health & safety, and live demonstrations.              
  13. Tue 11/1/16 – 10am – Swedeborg/MOCA – Wx. Demo at home and Mayor proclamation                    
  14. Tue 11/1/16 – 10:30 – Ozark/OACAC – Wx. Demo at home
