What are Dislocated Worker Services?
Dislocated Worker services are designed to help people who have been laid off through no fault of their own get back to work as quickly as possible. Sometimes people have barriers to finding employment quickly. These barriers to employment can include a change in demand for your previous occupation, such as we have seen for certain occupations during COVID-19, or other challenges to finding work.
Services for eligible people can include:
- Career planning and counseling
- Job search assistance
- Connections to employers hiring now
- Counselor-approved training
- Other support services

Sign up to be virtually prescreened and receive information via email, phone and/or Skype about the Dislocated Worker Program, eligibility criteria, process and how it helps job seekers get back to work.

Minimum Wage Increase in Minneapolis
On July 1, the minimum wage in Minneapolis increased to $12.50 for all employees and $14.25 at franchises or employers with over 100 employees. Employers may pay higher, but they may not pay lower than the minimum wage per hour worked in the city. The City is committed to supporting an economy that includes everyone.
Next year in July the minimum wage will reach $15 at large employers. Tips and gratuities do not count toward payment of a minimum wage.
Hennepin County - Upcoming COVID-19 Vaccine Events Offering the $50 Vaccine Incentive
Hennepin County is giving a $50 Visa gift card to people who get the Covid-19 vaccine at a community event! This reward is available only until August 15, or until the cards run out. Who can get the reward at one of the Hennepin County vaccine events:
- Everyone 18 and older who gets a first or second dose of COVID-19 vaccine.
- The parents or guardians of children 12 to 17 years old who get a first or second dose of COVID-19 vaccine.
- Children 12 to 17 years old who can show they have permission to get a first or second dose of COVID-19.
Vaccines are free and you do not need to live in Hennepin County to participate. A few walk-ins are accepted, but you should sign up before you go to make sure there is a vaccine for you.

The eviction moratorium is ending, apply for rent help now
The state of Minnesota has announced an end to the eviction moratorium. You will still be protected from eviction for past due rent if you have applied for COVID-19 rent assistance.
Renters in Hennepin County have two options to apply for rent help:

Zero Balance Project: Ask your landlord to start and lead the application process on your behalf
-
RentHelpMN: You or your landlord can start the application process
Until October 12, 2021, landlords must give renters a 15-day notice before they file an eviction for not paying rent. Visit Renters Help (211unitedway.org) for legal information and resources for renters.
Key dates

June 30: You could be evicted for violating your lease, or if you qualify for COVID-19 rent assistance but refuse to apply.

July 14: You could be evicted for violating your lease, but not for not paying rent
-
August 13: Your lease could be terminated if you have not paid rent and are not eligible for COVID-19 rent assistance
-
September 12: You could be evicted if you have not paid rent and are not eligible for COVID-19 rent assistance
-
October 12: Your could be terminated or you could be evicted for not paying rent unless you are eligible for COVID-19 rent assistance and have a pending application
-
June 1, 2022: All lease termination and eviction protections are lifted
Renters in Hennepin County can be protected from eviction for past due rent if they have applied for rent assistance through RentHelpMN or the Zero Balance Project and are waiting for a decision on their application.

Housing Eviction Resources
The state of Minnesota recently enacted a law that creates a timeline for allowing different types of lease terminations and evictions. It also creates some protections against certain types of evictions and requires an advance notice from landlords for nonpayment of rent. The new law protects tenants who have a pending application for emergency rental assistance. Click the link below to finds a list of resources and information on what to expect from this law;
Utilities Assistance Available
If you’re having a difficult time paying your utility bill, contact Community Action Partnership for financial help. Community Action Partnership’s program has grants and other resources to help people catch up on some of their bills
Apply for help with your Xcel Energy electric bill
Xcel Energy residential electric customers who have $1,000-$4,000 in past due charges due to the COVID-19 pandemic may be eligible for a new program. The Xcel Energy Payment Plan Credit Program forgives up to 75% of their past-due balance when customers enroll in a payment plan and stay current on that plan.

Apply for help with your CenterPoint Energy bill
CenterPoint Energy has a dedicated webpage with information about various types of federal and county assistance available for customers who need help paying their natural gas bill.
Hennepin County Office Specialist Training Program - starts Sept 13
Hennepin County is excited to share information about our Office Specialist Training Program beginning September 13th!
- This hybrid of virtual and in-person program focuses on further developing your administrative skills to help you obtain a position as a Hennepin County Office Specialist.
- Hennepin County board approved minimum wage is $20/hour effective 3/28/2021.
- This seven week tuition free training program was developed in partnership with Project for Pride in Living (PPL) .

City of Minneapolis Employment and Training administers a variety of employment and training programs under the direction of the Mayor, City Council, and Minneapolis Workforce Development Board. Our programs:
Career Pathways Trainings offer job seekers free or low-cost, accelerated trainings that prepare them for careers in high demand job sectors including Healthcare, IT, Public Safety and the Trades.
Minneapolis Works - Assistance finding a job for low-income, Minneapolis residents ages 18 and older.
