Michigan K-12 schools can take advantage of free sanitizing wipes, hand sanitizer, nitrile gloves (sizes XS-L), face masks/respirators, and disposable face shields offered by the Department of Technology, Management, and Budget (DTMB). DTMB will ship the supplies only to ISDs, at no charge to districts or ISDs. Districts and schools will need to coordinate to pick up the requested supplies from the ISDs.
Please see this DTMB memo for further information about ordering.
ORS notified you of our video intended for your new hires who are also new MPSERS members a few months ago. An updated version of the video has been posted and the link has changed. Please update this link in your emails: Choosing Your Retirement Plan (https://youtu.be/cfWnB87WKzE).
The updated version clarifies some details about the Pension Plus 2 plan, and now it includes specific percentages for contributions. It has updated visuals and includes up-to-date information for the 2023-24 school year.
As part of a financial audit, the Office of Retirement Services (ORS) sent a survey invitation email from ors−outreach @ michigan.gov via research.net to select staff at each reporting unit. The survey asks for information regarding when wages are earned compared to your reporting unit’s pay cycle. This information is vital for end of the year budget planning.
Survey invitations were sent Wednesday, Aug. 9. If you have already completed the survey, thank you for providing the information. No further action is needed.
If you have not yet completed your survey, we ask all reporting units to complete the survey by the end of the day Friday, Sept. 1.
If you are a contact for multiple reporting units, it is possible an invitation has been sent to another contact within your reporting unit. Please check with your other contacts on file with ORS to see whether someone else may have received the invitation for the other reporting unit(s).
If you received the invitation but are not the correct person to provide the data, please forward the email to the correct person.
If you have not received an invitation but believe you should have, please check your junk or spam folders, and check with your other contacts on file with ORS to see whether someone else may have received the invitation for your reporting unit.

When a payment or report is late, ORS notifies your reporting unit with a Delinquent Contributions – Fee Assessed or Incomplete Report – Fee Assessed letter and email. On the 15th business day of your pay cycle, if the problem is not resolved, a Notice of Delinquent Contributions or a Notice of Incomplete Report letter and email are sent. Beginning in August, these Notice emails will now also go to the contact listed as Superintendent on your reporting unit’s Employer Contacts page, accessible by the Web Administrator.
We have made this change to increase the chance that notices involving fees and interest are addressed promptly.

The ORS employer reporting team is reviewing results of the survey conducted in April. If you responded to that survey, thank you. Planning action steps in response to your feedback is a complex process, and we appreciate your patience.
With each survey, participants ask questions in the comments field, and some of them have relatively straightforward answers. Below are answers to a few questions we saw in that survey.
What is the Voya Employer Toolkit? We introduced the MPSERS Employer Toolkit, created by Voya to help employers with Defined Contributions, with an article and a link in the June 2022 issue of the newsletter. Another article explaining it appeared in the January 2023 issue.
Is there a better way to tell what codes are? In the Reporting Instruction Manual, Chapter 13: Codes and Definitions has sections on each type of code to be used in detail records, organized by the record type where the code is required. You may also find the overview of employment class codes and wage codes on page 15 of the Introduction to ORS Reporting helpful.
