If you're experiencing housing insecurity due to the pandemic, the Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA) has a Housing Education Program that may be able to help you.
The program partners with 35 Housing Counseling Agencies throughout the state to deliver counseling and educational classes in homebuyer education, pre-purchase individual counseling, foreclosure individual counseling, financial capabilities group education, rental housing education and counseling, disaster relief housing counseling, and homeless individual counseling.
You can search for local resources through the Housing Education Agency Locator and find the resource that fits your needs.
To honor the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. the Michigan Community Service Commission is supporting 27 volunteer projects that address community needs across the state.
The projects will engage more than 1,500 volunteers on addressing needs such as the COVID-19 pandemic, food insecurity and projects supporting youth, seniors and veterans. The Michigan Community Service Commission believes that volunteer involvement is key to overcoming and building thriving communities.
If you're interested in volunteering, visit Michigan.gov/Volunteer for more information.

January is Braille Literacy Month
The Bureau of Services for Blind Persons (BSBP) supports Braille Literacy all year long by teaching Braille as a core class at the BSBP Training Center. During the month of January, BSBP is collaborating with other agencies in the Braille Challenge and participating with libraries across the state in the Braille Enhanced Storywalk.
To celebrate Braille Literacy Month, the Braille and Talking Book Library (BTBL) set up a “Write Your Name in Braille” activity in the rotunda of the Michigan Library & Historical Center. The display highlights the importance of braille and encourages visitors to write their name in braille. You can find similar displays at public libraries throughout the state.
Make sure to follow the Braille and Talking Book Library on Facebook to see other celebrations taking place throughout the month.
