Workforce Pell Supplemental Application Available!
Workforce Pell Grants expand federal financial aid to cover short-term workforce training programs that prepare students for high-skill, high-wage and in-demand jobs. This extension of Pell Grant eligibility to learners and workers who want to pursue short-term training was enacted by Congress through H.R. 1 of 2025.
The U.S. Department of Education will begin accepting applications from training providers interested in using Workforce Pell after July 1, 2026. To apply to the U.S. Department of Education Michigan training providers must request state approval of programs as the first step to seeking eligibility for Workforce Pell funding. Federal law requires the Governor, in consultation with the Michigan Workforce Development Board, Michigan Department of Labor & Economic Opportunity (LEO), and Michigan Department of Lifelong Education, Advancement, and Potential (MiLEAP), to determine eligible programs before institutions apply for federal program approval.
After internally evaluating whether a program meets Workforce Pell requirements, training providers must register each program on the Michigan Training Connect (MiTC) by June 15, 2026. For more information, please review the MiTC Provider User Guide. Additional information is available on the State of Michigan Workforce Pell website.
Training providers must also complete the State of Michigan’s Supplemental Workforce Pell Program application for each program for which they are seeking State of Michigan approval by June 15, 2026. Please note, you must submit a Supplemental Workforce Pell application for each program. You can find all the supplemental application questions compiled in a single document for your convenience.
Additional documentation required as part of the application process must be emailed to MiLEAP-WFPell@michigan.gov.

The State of Michigan will host a training on Thursday, May 14th, 2026 to go over the application process and highlight the documentation requirements for approval.
