Michigan internet gaming and sports betting operators report combined $176.5 million September total gross receipts
Detroit, Oct. 18, 2022 – Michigan commercial and tribal operators reported combined total gross internet gaming receipts and gross internet sports betting receipts of $176.5 million during September. Receipts increased 14% when compared with August results of $154.9 million.
Internet gaming gross receipts for September were $128.7 million, down 1.7% from August receipts of $130.9 million. Gross sports betting receipts were $47.8 million compared with $24 million in August for a 99.3% increase.
Combined total adjusted internet gaming gross receipts and adjusted internet gross sports betting receipts were $143 million, including $115.8 million from internet gaming and $27.2 million from internet sports betting. Monthly internet gaming adjusted gross receipts fell by $1.7 million or 1.5%, and internet sports betting adjusted gross receipts increased by $11.1 million or 68.9% compared with August results.
Compared with September 2021, internet gaming adjusted gross receipts were up 25.5%, and internet sports betting increased by $27.2 million.
Total internet sports betting handle at $364.5 million rose 66.6% compared with the August handle of $218.8 million.
The operators submitted $ 25.6 million in taxes and payments to the state of Michigan during September including:
- Internet gaming taxes and fees: $24 million
- Internet sports betting taxes and fees: $1.6 million
The three Detroit casinos reported paying the city of Detroit $7.1 million in wagering taxes and municipal services fees during September including:
- Internet gaming taxes and fees: $6.3 million
- Internet sports betting taxes and fees: $759,345
Tribal operators reported making $2.8 million in payments to governing bodies.
During the first nine months of 2022, aggregate internet gaming adjusted gross receipts totaled $1 billion, and aggregate internet sports betting adjusted gross receipts were $131.4 million.

During September, one tribal operator ceased offering internet gaming, reducing the number of internet gaming operators to 14. A total of 15 commercial and tribal operators offered internet sports betting. Details for each operator’s internet gaming and internet sports betting results are available on the MGCB website.
