Central Sanitary Landfill Phase 1 Perfluoroalkyl and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS) Investigation Sample Results The first phase of drinking water well sampling near the Central Sanitary Landfill is complete. Residents who had their water tested have received their results. All results were below the Lifetime Health Advisory (LHA) level of 70 parts per trillion (ppt) for combined perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) and perfluorooctanesulfonic acid (PFOS). PFAS was not found in most of the drinking water wells. As a precaution, residents who had PFAS detected in their water sample have been offered filters. This is being done until we can complete the investigations and monitoring necessary to ensure that PFAS levels will remain below the LHA level of 70 ppt. Several more drinking water wells are being sampled to help define where PFAS is present, that may be related to the landfill. Thanks to all those who participated in the first phase of this investigation.
