Greetings District 5 residents! November is here, which means the pumpkin spice lattes, multi-colored leaves, and the hints of winter with increased windspeeds have hit the scene. Keep reading to see what's happening in District 5.

Councilwoman Shayla Adams-Stafford launched a Student Loan Relief Pilot Program to help ease the financial burden for District 5 residents. This program provides a one-time $250 payment toward student loan debt for eligible applicants, while funding lasts!
Eligible District 5 residents include:
• Federal workers impacted by terminations or furloughs (must provide Federal ID or proof of separation)
• Current Prince George’s County Public School teachers
The application deadline is Monday, December 1st at 5:00 PM. To apply, click the button below.

The Fall 2025 Prince George's County Council session ended on November 18th.
In just 5 months of being in office, Councilwoman Shayla Adams-Stafford supported 56 legislative items, including the passage of her first sponsored-resolution (CR-110-2025), a resolution concerning support for the creative industry in Prince George's County, during the last legislative session of 2025.

Over the last month, the Office of Councilwoman Adams-Stafford was spotted at: the County Council's D2, D3, D5, and At-Large Hispanic Heritage Celebration, Cheverly Hospital Redevelopment site visit, Chick-fil-A Balk Hill's Halloween Costume Party, M-NCPPC & KABOOM! Playground @ Ardmore Park's Ribbon Cutting, New Home Baptist Church's Federal Government Employee Resource Day, the Rhode Island Trolley Trail tour hosted by the Coalition for Smarter Growth, RISE Prince George's, the Capital Market, and WABA, the Town of Bladensburg's Day Parade and Clean-Up and Wandering Maryland's Waterways Bus Tour.

District 5 hosts Federal Workers & Veterans Procurement Fair and Food Giveaway
District 5 hosted the third iteration of our Federal Workers' resource hubs earlier this month. The Prince George's County Office of Procurement joined us to talk about doing business with the county and Maryland APEX Accelerator was present to educate business owners broadly about government contracting, even in unprecedented times. The attendees were engaged, folks signed up as vendors with the county on site, and we distributed over 50 boxes of food and hygiene products. We are grateful to have partnered with the Redeemer's Wellness Center to provide the food and hygiene boxes.
 District 5 hosts Civic and Homeowners Association Roundtable
District 5 hosted over 8 civic and homeowners' associations for a roundtable to learn more about our office, hear from agencies that are most relevant to them and network amongst neighbors. The Prince George's County Office of Community Relations, Department of Public Works & Transportation (DPWT), Common Ownership Communities and the three District 5 police divisions (Hyattsville, Bowie, and Palmer) were present. Each group shared valuable information to the residents in the room.

Pepco Customer Relief Fund
This program is made possible by Exelon and administered by the Salvation Army. The Customer Relief Fund was established with customers in mind. At Pepco, energy is a public necessity, and Pepco recognizes the financial challenges facing many of the customers and communities. Pepco is committed to providing affordable, reliable energy across their service territory and this fund is an extension of that commitment.
The Customer Relief Fund dollars will remain available until the fund runs out. For this reason, we want to make sure our customers take advantage of the dollars while they are available.

Alliance for Chesapeake Bay Rain Check Rebate Program (Prince George's County, MD)
The Maintaining Stormwater Practices in the Anacostia Watershed program is funded by the National Fish & Wildlife Foundation to help support residential property owners with maintenance of their Rain Check Rebate projects. This program offers support for Anacostia watershed residents through:

Free Inspections: A landscape professional will evaluate your stormwater practice and provide a written report of maintenance recommendations

Discounted Maintenance: For a limited time only, get up to 75% of the cost covered for the maintenance of your green feature while you learn proper maintenance techniques through hands-on preparation

Stormwater Maintenance Resource Center: Check out the online maintenance resources for more information about caring for your stormwater practices

Green Ambassadors Program (GAP): Are you interested in joining a community volunteer maintenance team to maintain neighborhood stormwater practices, including yours?

Prince George’s County Community Gardens Mini Grant
The Prince George's County Community Gardens Mini Grant Program supports the creation and need for community gardens that provide resources to the Prince George’s County community while supporting the Prince George’s County Climate Action Plan. The primary goal of this mini grant is to fund community garden projects that help address food security and support neighborhood scale implementation of regenerative agriculture and other sustainable gardening practices.
This program supports both the development of new community gardens as well as the growth of existing community gardens that plan to expand regenerative practices. New community gardens can request up to $9,500. Existing community gardens can request up to $3,000 OR $9,500 with the addition of mentorship. Mentorship can include, but is not limited to, mentoring applicants applying for community gardens, holding classes and information sessions, and conducting tours.
Requests are accepted on an on-going basis.
