Build Your Child’s Emotional Wellness with Resilience Skills

You can help your child build a strong emotional wellness foundation in early childhood with resilience skills. When your child knows how to manage stress and feelings on their own, they can have improved behavior and health throughout their life. With these tips, you can teach your child about resilience.

  • Model self-care for your child by making sure you practice it for yourself.
  • Build a relationship with your child through bonding activities.
  • Stick to a daily routine to demonstrate stability.
  • Focus and reflect on moments of hope and appreciation with your child.
  • Strengthen your child’s social and communication skills.
  • Do not be afraid to talk to your child about difficult topics in a way they can understand.

Want to Enroll Your Child in Pre-K?

Pre-K applications usually open in late winter or early spring. If your child will be 3 or 4 years old by September 1, check with your local school district for dates and how to apply.

If you miss the application window, you still have options. Many programs offer Pre-K at low or no cost for eligible families. These include family child care, child care centers, Head Start programs, faith-based programs, preschools, and Montessori programs.

Better Sleep Means Better Health!

Sleep is important because it allows you to rest, recharging your mind and body so that you can keep performing at your best. However, more than one-third of adults do not get enough sleep. Without good sleep, you could have trouble focusing, have mood swings, and be more likely to get sick.

If you struggle to fall asleep or stay asleep, you might need to boost your sleep hygiene. This means improving your routines so that you can get plenty of healthy sleep. Check out these sleep hygiene tips:

  • Prepare your sleep environment. Reduce noise, light, and distractions and make sure your bed and room temperature feel comfortable.
  • Give yourself time to wind down. Put away electronic devices and take steps to relax, like stretching, reading, or taking a bath, one hour before you go to bed.
  • Avoid food and substances close to bedtime. Heavy meals less than three hours before bed and nighttime caffeine, nicotine, and alcohol could make it harder to fall asleep.
