ArtsReach Program

Kentucky center logo

When The Kentucky Center for the Performing Arts opened its doors over 30 years ago, one of its key missions was to bring the arts to our community. Beyond being an iconic building on Main Street where world-class artists regularly grace its stages, The Kentucky Center reaches across streets, neighborhoods and communities to support the arts in a multitude of ways. One such way is through ArtsReach. By serving as a community connection, ArtsReach is nurturing and developing new, young, and diverse artists and audiences. We place professional violin, dance, and visual art in community centers for weekly classes; produce a monthly Open Mic at the Kentucky Center; and present the annual Keepers of the Dream Celebration of Dr. King's Vision of enduring peace, justice and righteousness.

As a nonprofit organization deeply invested in our community, The Kentucky Center ArtsReach program makes it possible for participating community center sites and arts education studio students to purchase $3 tickets to Kentucky Center performances through the K-Card program. Through this program, youth and families are able to experience a wide variety of art forms, including world music, contemporary dance, jazz, children's theatre, ballet, orchestra, Broadway productions and opera at a significant savings. Since 2001, 14,000 tickets have been purchased. Through steadfast commitment from our many partners, ArtsReach continues to have a profound impact on underserved Louisville communities.

In addition to the K-Card program, ArtsReach produces numerous un-ticketed events. In 2013-2014, thirteen events took place including monthly Open Mics, the Hughes & Blues event featuring the writing of Langston Hughes, the annual Dr. Martin Luther King Celebration, and a Performing Arts Showcase highlighting community center youth. In total, over 3500 people were in attendance at these events. To learn more about ArtsReach, please visit http://www.facebook.com/artsreachky or www.kentuckycenter.org
