As I mentioned briefly several weeks ago, the Louisville Metro Council recently passed an ordinance intended to strengthen the city's approach to signs placed in the right-of-way. We've all seen what this looks like with signs placed on utility poles, in medians, along sidewalks, and attached to traffic signs. People most often comment on this issue from an aesthetic point of view, but these signs can be a public safety concern as well.
Enforcement of this new ordinance will begin January 1, 2027 to give businesses, nonprofits, sign companies, and residents ample time to understand the requirements and legal advertising options. Each week, the Metro Office of Planning creates a report listing all new land use applications in Jefferson County. These typically include requests for changes in zoning, conditional use permits, variances, waivers, and more. While there are no new cases from our district in this week's report, there are a couple of revised submittals that may interest nearby residents. One is a landscape plan for a new restaurant at 10003 Ballardsville Road. The other is a district development plan to permit the construction of a bank just down the road at 10305 Ballardsville Road.
The Department of Codes & Regulations recently launched new public-facing dashboards to give residents a clearer look at the work they are doing throughout the city. These dashboards make it easier to discover if a property is scheduled for inspection, a home has a permit for construction work, or a vacant property is on the calendar for cutting and cleaning. Each option includes navigation tips, page descriptions, and definitions to help users better understand the information available.
