Proposed Data Center Regulations

The Louisville Metro Office of Planning has released its proposed data center regulations for public input. You may recall I sponsored legislation asking for these recommendations so that we would be better prepared for future developments of this kind. Among other things, the draft regulations:

  • Ban hyperscale data centers and limit future proposals to less than 500,000 square feet
  • Limit any proposed developments to industrial areas
  • Require evidence that new facilities will not shift costs to existing ratepayers
  • Require environmentally low-impact construction and site design practices
  • Establish noise standards and buffering requirements for generators and other equipment
  • Require the developer to bear the cost of improvements to infrastructure if upgrades are needed

We are now in a period of public review. I encourage you to look over what has been proposed and provide feedback. Once the review period is over, the Office of Planning will evaluate the comments, consider necessary revisions, and schedule public hearings with the Planning Commission before the regulations are forwarded to the Metro Council for final consideration. Click here for more information or to share your suggestions.

Office of Planning Weekly Activity Report

Each week, the Metro Office of Planning creates a report listing all new land use applications in Jefferson County. These typically include requests for changes in zoning, conditional use permits, waivers, landscape plans, and more. There are no applications in this week's report involving property in District 17, though there is one just outside our district - a community facility review related to stadium renovations at Eastern High School. Please let me know if you have questions about that or any other case.

I-65 Central Corridor Project Update

According to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, the I-65 Central Corridor Project (which primarily involves replacing three aging bridges between downtown Louisville and I-264) remains on schedule. Demolition work at the Bradley Avenue bridge is complete and old bridge decks have been removed from all three locations. The next phase consists of demolishing the bridge substructures.
