Friday Thoughts

Happy Friday! For many of us, this time of year means school is wrapping up and focus has turned either to the next step in the academic journey or summer fun. For those looking for a little bit of both, let me suggest the 2026 Cultural Pass. If you're not familiar with the Cultural Pass, it offers young people and their families FREE access over the summer to more than 150 activities in the areas of art, nature, history, science, and more. This year's partners include such venues as Actors Theatre, the Kentucky Derby Museum, Blackacre Nature Preserve, and the Muhammad Ali Center. I hope you'll check it out!

The focus here in City Hall continues to be the FY27 budget. This week, we had hearings with Human Resources, Public Works, Office of Social Services, External Agencies, Parks & Recreation, and the Louisville Zoo (joined by Chiquita the tegu and Julep the sandhill crane!).

We also held the Community Budget Hearing this week. About 40 people came to City Hall to speak in person on a variety of topics such as libraries, homelessness, seniors, and public safety. (Add to that about 170 people who have already shared comments online, and I am very pleased with the amount of community input so far.)

As for next week, we'll hear from Facilities/Fleet Management and LMPD on Wednesday and Louisville Fire, Emergency Services, and Metro Animal Services on Thursday. Please let me know if you have comments or questions about any of these departments. You can do that through the link above (which also includes budget documents and a schedule of hearings), by calling or emailing my office, or by joining me May 26 at 6:30 p.m. at the Northeast Regional Library for my coffee meeting with Budget Director Aaron Jackson.

I hope you have a great weekend. As always, please don't hesitate to reach out if my office can be of assistance.

PVA Appeal Window Closes May 18

By now, many of you have received a reassessment notice from the PVA. As a property owner, you have the right to contest that assessment if you believe it's not an accurate representation of the fair market value of your property. The first step in the appeals process, an online conference, opened April 24 and will close May 18 at 4 p.m., so you have just a few more days to take advantage. Click here to begin the process, check the status of an existing appeal, or for more information.

Office of Planning Weekly Activity Report

Each week, the Metro Office of Planning creates a report listing all new land use applications in Jefferson County. These typically include requests for changes in zoning, conditional use permits, variances, waivers, and more. There is one District 17 property listed in this week's report, 3308 Collins Lane. The applicant is proposing to rezone that property to permit the construction of two industrial buildings. Several waivers and a variance are being requested as well. Contact my office or the case manager at zachary.jones@louisvilleky.gov if you have any questions or comments.
