LG&E has advised that power is expected to be connected by the end of this week. As a result, you may begin to see operational testing of the new traffic signal. We are hopeful the signal will be fully activated by the end of next week. A more detailed schedule will be available later this week and will be shared once confirmed.
Update from AMFEMS New Station 36 – Fisherville Area
Background In 2019, Anchorage Middletown Fire & EMS (AMFEMS) merged with the Eastwood Fire District to improve emergency response across the region. The Fisherville station, originally designed as a small volunteer facility, has long struggled to meet modern operational needs.
Current Challenges
- Original building was designed primarily for equipment storage
- Limited living space (approx. 1,500 usable square feet)
- Inadequate sanitation, gear storage, and decontamination areas
- Unable to support full 24‑hour staffing consistently
- Site size (0.34 acres) does not allow for expansion
These limitations have impacted staffing flexibility and emergency response coverage in the Fisherville area.
To better serve our community and workforce: AMFEMS has acquired property at 14714 Taylorsville Road to build a modern fire station designed for today’s emergency service needs.
Proposed Facility Highlights
- Approximately 16,000 square feet total
- 6,000 sq. ft. apparatus bays
- 10,000 sq. ft. for personnel and community use
- Living quarters, kitchen, day room, offices, and fitness space
- Dedicated decontamination and turnout gear storage areas
- Multi‑purpose training and community room
Environmental Considerations
- About one‑third of the property is in the 100‑year floodplain
- No construction planned in floodplain areas
- Floodplain preserved as a natural buffer and open green space
- Design prioritizes responsible land use and long‑term sustainability
Health, Safety, and Community Focus The new station will follow modern fire service standards to reduce firefighter cancer risk through separation of contaminated and living areas. Community input, transparency, and environmental protection have guided the project from the beginning.
This project ensures that residents have reliable emergency services supported by a facility that reflects community values, protects the environment, and meets modern public safety standards.

We are writing to invite you to a neighborhood meeting regarding the above-referenced preapplications that Applicant recently filed with the Metro Louisville Office of Planning. The meeting will be held on :fuesday, April 14, 2026 at 6:oo PM in the Bluegrass Room at Hampton Inn & Suites Louisville East, 1451 Alliant Avenue, Louisville, Kentucky 40299.
Enclosed for your review are the following: 1. Site Plan 2. Contact Information 3. Information on how to obtain case information online from Louisville Metro Planning & Design's on line customer service portal 4. "After the meeting" instructions
The Applicant is seeking zoning and form district changes for the Property to establish an industrial/office warehouse site of smaller warehouse buildings (450,000 sq. feet divided amongst four (4) buildings). The Property will be used to create Plantside Innovation Park, with four (4) one-story buildings, each for warehouse space, associated office space, and a dock/transfer area to serve the warehouse space (the "Proposal"). Vehicle and bicycle parking will be provided to serve business deliveries, employees, customers and visitors to the Property.
Notice of Neighborhood Meeting
The Proposal seeks vehicular access to both Rehl Road and to Plantside Drive, the latter of which the Applicant intends to extend to serve the Property; heavy truck traffic to/from the Property will be restricted from/to Plantside Drive. To facilitate this Proposal, the Applicant will also seek amendments to various binding elements attached to the Property under Case No. 11642, a prior rezoning case that included various tracts of land, including the Property. Some of these binding elements are inapplicable to the Applicant's Proposal or were proposed to mitigate proposed development more intense in scope and scale than the Applicant's current Proposal, notably, the higher traffic counts generated by the previously approved plan.

Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg and the Louisville Zoo announce a groundbreaking, legendary, unprecedented—and, in fact, downright historic—unicorn exhibit set to open April 1, 2027.
“I am beyond the moon to announce such an iconic opening right here in Louisville. We have the fastest two minutes in sports, the pre‑eminent music festival Bourbon & Beyond, the disco ball, the Louisville Slugger—and now, we will soon have a unicorn to add to the list of things that makes Louisville a magical, world‑class city,” said Mayor Greenberg. “One year from now, I’ll meet you at the Zoo for a little more of that Louisville magic.”
“We are thrilled to break ground on this first‑of‑its‑kind exhibit and to extend our Zoo family with the addition of three unicorns,” said Louisville Zoo Director Dan Maloney. “In 2027, we will welcome Ursula (2‑year‑old female), Ursus (5‑year‑old male), and Earl (1482‑year‑old male) to Louisville. I’m even more excited to share that Zoo staff 100% funded this project from their sheer excitement to support the conservation of this magical species. They’ve already asked me about a dragon exhibit next. It’s in our master plan—so stay tuned for that big announcement.”
Construction will begin May 1 in the elephant yard formerly home to Mikki and Punch. We think they would approve of the update of their former habitat.
For full biographies of Ursula, Ursus, and Earl—and additional information—visit louisvillezoo.org/unicorn.
