Friday Thoughts

Happy Friday! I hope you are staying warm in these cold temperatures. The good news is it appears some warmer weather is on the horizon. If you are like me, that can't happen fast enough!

Thinking ahead to warmer temperatures and the beginning of construction season, it won't be long until asphalt plants come back online and paving can begin again. Quite a few roads in our district were resurfaced in the first half of the fiscal year, and several more are on the schedule in the coming months. Click here for a map showing all paving projects for FY26 as well as the current pavement condition for any metro-maintained road in Jefferson County. I expect work to resume in earnest on the Whipps Mill Road/La Grange Road corridor projects and look forward to completion of the enhanced safety and pedestrian-friendly measures. Other critical improvements to look forward to in our area include the widening of N. English Station Road (KYTC currently anticipates construction to begin this summer) and work along KY 22 between Hurstbourne Parkway and I-265 (more to come on that project later).

We are also working on projects that improve traffic flow and the general appearance of one of our major corridors. Public Works will be modifying an existing median on northbound Hurstbourne Parkway to create more capacity for those waiting to turn left at Westport Road. Additionally, we will be enhancing medians and other portions of the right-of-way along Westport Road near I-265 by removing broken concrete, adding plantings and other treatments, etc.

Finally, sidewalk improvements are underway, both in terms of new construction and repair of existing sidewalks. We are now in the permitting stage of a new sidewalk along Westport Road from Chamberlain Lane to Towne Center Drive. I will keep you updated as things progress on that project. Public Works expects to continue work on sidewalk repairs in our district later this month. If you are out walking and notice any sections that seem dangerous, please note the neighboring address and share that with us - we'll be glad to get those added to the list for remediation assuming they meet the criteria established by Public Works.

Whether you are cheering for the Patriots, the Seahawks, or just interested in the commercials, I hope you enjoy the Super Bowl and have a great weekend altogether. As always, if my office can be of any assistance to you, please give us a call!

'Coffee With Your Councilman' - February 23 at 6 p.m.

My next 'Coffee With Your Councilman' will be Monday, February 23 at 6 p.m. at the Middletown Library, 12556 Shelbyville Road. Brian Davis with the Metro Office of Planning will be our guest. Our primary focus that evening will be data centers: what they are, what amendments to the Land Development Code are under consideration, how the public can get involved in the process, etc. Data centers have become a very hot topic over the last few months, so I hope you'll join us to learn more and share any insight you may have.

Office of Planning Weekly Activity Report

Each week, the Metro Office of Planning creates a report listing all new land use applications in Jefferson County. These usually include requests for things like changes in zoning, conditional use permits, waivers, and more. There is one case in this week's report related to property in District 17, a zoning certification for property located at 2050 Nelson Miller Parkway. As I've mentioned before, these kinds of requests are typically done to confirm the zoning or form district for a property, learn if it is located in any other jurisdiction, review any former zoning cases related to the site, etc. Please let me know if you have questions or comments about this case.
