'Coffee With Your Councilman' - Monday, October 13

James Craig

James Craig was first elected to the Jefferson County Board of Education in 2018.

My next 'Coffee With Your Councilman' will be Monday, October 13 at 6 p.m. in the large meeting room of the Northeast Regional Library, 15 Bellevoir Circle. Our guest that evening will be James Craig, District 3 Representative on the Jefferson County Board of Education. Click here to learn more about Mr. Craig and which schools are in his district. He will give some opening remarks and then answer questions from those in attendance. As time permits, I'll share the latest from City Hall and address any questions or concerns related to metro government. I hope to see you on October 13!

Office of Planning Weekly Activity Report

Each week, the Metro Office of Planning creates a report listing all new land use applications in Jefferson County. These can include requests for changes in zoning, conditional use permits, variances, landscape plans, and more. There is one case in this week's report involving property in District 17, a revised district development plan to construct office buildings on 4.6 acres at 11301 Park Road. If you have any questions or comments, please let me know or contact the case manager listed in the report.

Public Input - Community EV Readiness Plan

The city would like your input on the proposed Community Electric Vehicle (EV) Readiness Plan designed to prepare Louisville for a cleaner, more accessible transportation future. The current draft includes recommendations and strategies to expand public EV infrastructure, remove barriers to EV adoption, and more. A forthcoming component will outline steps needed to transition the city's fleet to zero-emission vehicles. Click here to view the plan and share your thoughts. The comment period will be open through October 31.

Fall Community-Wide Cleanup - Saturday, October 18

Brightside

I mentioned this a few weeks ago but wanted to do so one more time. Brightside's fall community-wide cleanup is scheduled for Saturday, October 18. It's a great way to beautify our city while gathering with neighbors, earning service hours with classmates, or meeting up with co-workers for a community service project. As always, Brightside provides the necessary supplies and coordinates the post-cleanup bag collection. Click here for more details or to register.

'Another Way' Update

It's been a while since I reported on the 'Another Way' program, so I thought I'd share the latest update. You may recall that this program is a collaboration between metro government and Goodwill Industries of Kentucky. Goodwill staff visits high visibility locations around the city offering individuals an opportunity for day work such as picking up litter along our roadways. Not only does this serve as an alternative to panhandling, it also gives folks a chance to have lunch and learn how Goodwill can help with issues like housing support, career training, and substance abuse. In the month of September, 173 new individuals were helped. For example:

  • 17 secured full-time employment (hotels, restaurants, nonprofits, etc.)
  • 8 were connected to treatment of some kind
  • 26 were provided with temporary or permanent housing
  • 31 received IDs

I continue to be amazed at the work done by Goodwill staff and look forward to this program continuing to make a real difference in our community.
