Below is a one-pager of our new crime plan in English and in Spanish. Your input strengthens and adds invaluable insight to our operations. As Chief Humphrey said, "Without a plan, communication falls apart and things often become scattered and unorganized. Importantly, we want YOU to understand this plan and how you fit into it. Louisville Metro FY26 External Agency Fund grant applications now open through March 3

The FY 26 External Agency Fund Grant Applications opened today and will close March 3. These grants are awarded annually to qualifying nonprofit organizations offering social services or programs in Louisville/Jefferson County. 

EAF grants provide critical funding to nonprofits serving Louisville’s diverse community needs. Once applications are submitted, they enter a competitive process and are scored by a panel based on impact and measurable outcomes.

Successful applicants’ proposals will be recommended for funding in the mayor’s FY 26 budget proposal to Metro Council.

Each of the following Louisville Metro agencies will administer the EAF Funds:

Office for Safe and Healthy Neighborhoods: Youth Engagement Services Funding

Office of Resilience and Community Services: Community Services Funding

Office of Arts + Creative Industries: Arts, Heritage, and Creative Industry Funding

Second Annual Teen College & Career Fair returns to the Main Library this Saturday, February 1

The Louisville Free Public Library’s College & Career Fair just for teens (ages 14-19), returns to the Main Library for the second year on Saturday, February 1, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Participants will have the opportunity to meet with college representatives, prospective employers, and business owners, as well as hear from keynote speaker filmmaker Kyle Rohrbach, a former Reading Rainbow producer.  

This daylong conference features numerous opportunities for teens to learn about interesting career and college paths. Representatives from the University of Louisville, Berea College, the Peace Corps, Evolve502, Brew & Sip Café, Metro Louisville Human Resources, and many more will be available in the vendor hall and offer breakout sessions throughout the day. Breakout sessions will cover business startups, freelancing, content creation, financial aid, and college choice. Attendees can also receive one-on-one college and career advice from experts on a variety of topics, including building successful resumes and portfolios, admissions essays, and scholarships.

For students hoping to break into film and television production, Watcher Entertainment producer Kyle Rohrbach will present the keynote speech “Lights, Camera, Perseverance: I Think I Made It in Hollywood,” followed by a “Paths to Production: Film School & Beyond” session. Formerly a producer on Reading Rainbow, Kyle has filmed everywhere from the White House to Mongolia. He co-produced the award-winning documentary Esfuerzo, and spent the last three years as Head of Production at comedy network Dropout, overseeing the critically acclaimed variety series Game Changer and Webby winner Very Important People.

Rhythm Science Sound, a Louisville-based collective of music producers, deejays, and music/tech educators, will close out the day alongside other professional artists in a “How I Got to Where I Am Now” panel discussion. Following the closing session, attendees will have the chance to win prizes, and one lucky winner will receive a new laptop (must be present to win).

Kentucky’s Circuit Clerks launch statewide 2025 Donate Life Scholarship Opportunity

Scholarships aim to raise awareness about the critical need for organ donation and transplantation

Since 1992, the Kentucky Association of Circuit Court Clerks has championed the lifesaving mission of organ donation. Inspired by personal experiences - including one Circuit Clerk’s loss of a loved one awaiting a heart transplant and others with connections to donation—the Circuit Clerks worked tirelessly to make a difference. Their efforts culminated in successful legislation passed by the Kentucky General Assembly, enabling Kentuckians obtaining a driver’s license to contribute to organ and tissue donation initiatives.

Since 1992, these contributions have raised over $20 million for organ donation awareness, registering more than 2 million Kentuckians as donors and providing hope to the 100,000 
Americans waiting for the gift of life.

In 2020, the state transitioned driver’s licensing responsibilities from the Circuit Clerks’ Offices
to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet. Despite this shift, the Circuit Clerks remain deeply
committed to the educational efforts they initiated decades ago. When the Circuit Clerks introduced the organ donor program through dollar donations at driver’s license, it was the first program of its kind in the United States. This pioneering effort has since inspired similar programs in over 30 states. The funds raised are reinvested into Kentucky communities through public education initiatives and outreach events.

The new scholarship program offers students an opportunity to creatively express their passion
for organ, eye and tissue donation and inspire others to register as donors. Students can submit projects in various forms, such as:

• Writing and sharing a song or video about donation on social media.
• Crafting a persuasive speech for their school about the importance of registering as a
  donor.
• Designing a cafeteria display to educate peers about donation and transplantation facts.

“This scholarship is unique because it doesn’t require a high GPA or extensive extracurricular involvement,” added Bruner. “We’ve intentionally made the application process straightforward, ensuring it is accessible to all students, including those whose lives have been impacted by personal or family health challenges. For instance, a student whose parent is on dialysis awaiting a kidney transplant may face obstacles that limit their participation in traditional extracurricular activities. This scholarship is designed to be inclusive and achievable for everyone.”

Applicants can receive a toolkit with information and ideas, but projects are meant to be personal, independent, and creatively tailored to their peers. Beyond the opportunity to earn a scholarship, students will develop valuable skills such as public speaking, marketing, graphic design, networking, and media outreach. Most importantly, they will play an essential role in spreading hope and saving lives through organ donation and transplantation. The application deadline is April 7. Sammy Moore Memorial League registration open to February 8

Registration ends February 8 for the annual Sammy Moore Memorial League! Tournament dates are February 15 through March 29 with games on Saturdays. Participants must be 10 to 12 years old, (may not turn 13 before April 1). Register at community centers.

Please complete a short survey about childcare by February 14

Louisville Metro Government is partnering with IQS Research to understand how Louisville families navigate child care options and the challenges they encounter. Parents or guardians of a child or children 0-8 years old in Jefferson County are invited to respond to the survey. The 2024 Childcare Demand Study will close on February 14.

The survey should take about 10 to 15 minutes to complete and is available in multiple languages: English, Arabic, French, Somali, Spanish, and Swahili.

LIHEAP Winter Crisis enrollment continues

In Jefferson County, Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) Winter Crisis enrollment is available through the Louisville Metro Office of Resilience and Community Services. Appointments are required in advance to apply. Eligible households can apply for one or both LIHEAP Winter Crisis and MSD’s EWRAP (Emergency Wastewater Rate Assistance Program) with one single appointment.  Applications will be accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis through March 31, or until designated funds have been expended. Jefferson County residents meeting eligibility can call the automated scheduler at 991-8391 or visit online at louisvilleky.cascheduler.com.

Remember the Camp Taylor Elementary School pantry as you shop

The Family Resource Center can always use food donations to the school pantry at Camp Taylor Elementary School. The FRC feeds students and their families at Camp Taylor and Audubon Traditional Elementary Schools, and maintain a food pantry in front of the school to feed the community.

Monthly Food Pantry at St Agnes Parish in partnership with Dare to Care

The monthly Food Pantry at St. Agnes Parish, in partnership with Dare to Care, distributes food to approximately 150 guest families the fourth Saturday of each month. The pantry operates from 9 to 10:30 a.m. and is open to all Louisville residents. Guests are served via a drive-through format.

We will name a cockroach with the name of your choosing, whether it be an ex, a politician, family member, etc, and feed them to our turtle, Francis. For $10 we will email you a personalized certificate and video of the cockroach that you named being fed to him! You can enter up to five times, but feel free to donate as much money as you want! All donations will go towards getting Francis a new and improved tank!

February 12 - Louisville Zoo's couples-only Trivia Night

Celebrate love in the wild with our couples-only trivia night at the Louisville Zoo on February 12 at 6:30 p.m. This special “The Birds and the Beasts” edition of the Zoo’s popular trivia night series will bring some romance just in time for Valentine’s Day — showcasing wild love stories and featuring a three-course dinner, drinks and themed entertainment. The trivia fun is exclusively for adults ages 21 and over and is hosted by Louisville Trivia.

Tickets are only available in pairs and include admission for two for trivia, two drinks (beer, wine, soda), a shared appetizer, two entrees, and a shared dessert. Advanced purchase is required; there will be no day-of sales. 

Prizes will be awarded to the top three teams. Spots fill up quickly, so get tickets early at louisvillezoo.org/trivia. Regular team trivia will return from March to December.

February 8 - next "Once Upon An Orchestra” event, providing free musical storytelling performances for families at Louisville libraries

The Louisville Free Public Library and the Louisville Orchestra's “Once Upon An Orchestra” public performances continue at LFPL locations through March. The free programs weave music and storytelling together in an interactive experience. Orchestra musicians perform original music created around familiar and beloved children’s books. The hour-long experiences include a 30-minute small ensemble performance preceded by a hands-on activity to build a musical instrument from recycled materials, so everyone can play along.

“Once Upon An Orchestra” is funded with support from Louisville Metro Government. For more information, contact your local LFPL branch, or call the Louisville Orchestra at 587-8681. Next performance is The Very Hungry Caterpillar, Saturday, February 8 at 2 p.m. at the St. Matthews Library.

February 9 - next tour at the Louisville Water Tower

The Louisville Water Tower is one of Louisville's eight national historic landmarks and a must-see for both locals and tourists. Fun fact: It's actually the oldest water tower in the U.S.! The tower opens its doors to the public on the second Sunday of every month. The dates for the rest of this quarter are:

Short term rental enforcement continues in large part to be complaint-driven, based on public reporting of alleged violations to administrators.

An interactive map tool contains all of the registered short term rentals in Louisville having an active permit to rent their property out to paying customers on STR websites like Airbnb.

• Find out where Louisville Water is working: The Louisville Water website offers an easy way to find out. An interactive map shows not only construction locations but also details on the projects, including the status, type, and even the project manager's phone number. The map shows all planned projects but currently does not display repairs on water main breaks. 
• Be informed about crimes: The Louisville Metro Police Department uses a Crime Mapping website to display crime on a map of Jefferson County. Zoom in to see crimes in an area, or enter an address to search. You may sign up for auto email alerts for crime around an address. Reports are made available to the public after a process of internal review, often in the same day as the report taken. Due to the nature of some crimes, reports are made available to public upon the completion of a thorough investigation and will be made available as soon as practical.

• Report a streetlight out: Please report non-working streetlights to LG&E. 
• Report a pothole: Report online, send the location of the hole via X to @LouMetro311 and include the hashtag #502pothole, or call Metro311 or 574-5000. 
• Report a hazard on a state road or highway, such as non-working highway lighting or potholes. 
• Report a litterer: call Metro311 or 574-5000.
• Help stop wire theft along Kentucky's highways: Report to the KYTC Office of Inspector General (OIG) Office at 502-330-7506. If your information leads to an arrest and conviction, you may be eligible for a $5,000 reward. Report active crimes or suspicious activity to local law enforcement, and report dark intersections to the KYTC Traffic Operations Center at 877-FOR-KYTC.
• Serve on one of Louisville Metro's Boards or Commissions: from the board of the Louisville Water Company to Metro Parks to the Louisville Planning Commission, Metro has more than 70 boards, most of which are voluntary-based and are not paid but the reward of serving pays big dividends to our community.
