District 10 news

New Year, new District 10 representation!

Happy New Year, all! Councilman Mulvihill thanks everyone for the well wishes and congratulations on his retirement from Metro Council, which becomes official January 5. It has been his honor to represent and serve this district and the city.

New District 10 Councilmember Josie Raymond will be sworn in January 6, along with six other new council members. We welcome Councilmember Raymond to the D-10 office and look forward to working together!

Metro Snow Team is ready

Members of Metro’s Snow Team have been working since Tuesday checking equipment, attaching plows to ensure all is working well, and the Team is ready for the anticipated snowfall. The Team will work around the clock for as long as necessary to ensure Metro’s 110 snow routes (2,734 two-lane mile) are in safe driving condition.

What drivers can do:

  • Slow down, don’t rush – approach roads with caution, as they may be icy and slippery
  • Plan ahead – give yourself ample to time, by at least doubling the time it usually takes to get there during normal weather
  • Look out for snow plows and give our Snow Team room to work – Snow plows are big and bulky, and sudden maneuvers around them create additional hazards

Review additional Winter Weather Safety tips from the National Weather Service.

Prepare your pipes for frigid weather

Each year during extreme cold weather, internal water lines may freeze and/or burst. Avoid that costly mess.

Focus on eliminating the amount of cold air coming into the home around water pipes.

  •  Wrap exposed pipes with insulating material purchased at a hardware store.
  • If the home has a crawl space, cover the outside vents to prevent winter winds from freezing the pipes.
  • If the house has a slab foundation, keep the garage door closed. Some water pipes are located under concrete floors in the garage.
