The last Pop-Up Drop-Off of 2024 will be held Saturday, November 16 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Shawnee Park, 4501 W. Broadway. This is a great chance to properly dispose of items like mattresses, electronics, tires, prescription medications, and more. Click here for additional information such as tips to make your visit more efficient and how much of the material collected at these events is recycled.
Each week, the Metro Office of Planning creates a report listing all new land use applications in Jefferson County. These applications can include requests for changes in zoning, conditional use permits, variances, and more. There is one case in this week's report involving property in District 17, a request for a revised district development plan to extend a commercial parking lot at 2813 North Hurstbourne Parkway. You can view the current site plan here. Please contact the case manager at kaitlin.dever@louisvilleky.gov with any questions.
As I mentioned last week, the Louisville Metro Council is partnering with the Association of Community Ministries to collect food and household items for those in need. All items collected (we had almost 2,500 last year!) will be distributed evenly between the 13 ministries. Drop-off locations will be available throughout the city, with our district having one at the Berrytown Recreation Center, 1300 Heafer Road. A complete list of sites should be posted soon here. I hope you'll be able to help!
I mentioned in last week's newsletter that the Louisville Water Company had notified my office of plans to close Aiken Road near its intersection with N. English Station Road. We were notified this morning that water main project will not be moving forward, so there is no need to close the road. If anything changes, I will let you know.
Enrollment for the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) Fall Subsidy is now open. This program provides eligible Kentucky households a one-time benefit (paid directly to the energy vendor) depending on housing category, fuel type used, and income level. In Jefferson County, this subsidy is made available through the Louisville Metro Office of Resilience and Community Services. You can call 502-991-8391 or click here to schedule an appointment or learn more about eligibility requirements, documentation needed, etc. Applications will be accepted through December 20 or until funds are depleted.
The Louisville Asset Building Coalition is looking for volunteers to support the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) free tax preparation program. Opportunities to help include being greeters, tax preparers, and reviewers. This program, operating in locations throughout the city, not only helps people file their taxes, it helps families keep more of their hard-earned dollars, creates financial stability, and builds a brighter future. Your time and skills can make a real difference in someone's life! Click here to learn more or apply.
