Friday Thoughts

Happy Friday! I hope you're having a great week and enjoying this fall weather. If you're going to be out and about on Halloween, please be safe - stay in groups, walk on sidewalks where possible, carry flashlights/glowsticks to help with visibility, examine treats before eating them, etc. Have lots of fun, too, of course!

This week I want to focus my comments on projects happening in our district. One of the things I get asked about often is paving. While we're nearing the end of the 2024 paving season, there are roads in our district scheduled to be paved in the coming year or so. Click here to view a map that shows, by district, the most current PCI (the condition of the road, basically) of metro-maintained roads and the resurfacing projects scheduled through FY26. Click the 'Layer List' icon in the top right corner to select what information is shown on the map.

Another project many people inquire about is the sidewalk along Freys Hill Road. Metro Public Works has reached a fully-executed agreement with the Kentucky State Parks Department which will allow construction of a six-foot wide concrete sidewalk that connects an existing sidewalk near Sawyer Place to an existing one in the parking lot of the park. Construction could begin as early as next month.

We are making headway regarding playground improvements at Hounz Lane Park. Work will proceed over the winter with the expectation everything will be in place by spring. I'm really looking forward to residents getting to visit this exciting and unique playground renovation.

Finally, we had a meeting earlier this week on some planned improvements to the medians on Westport Road near I-265. We're looking into sculptural and natural elements to beautify this stretch. In addition to the aesthetic improvements, this work should also help discourage the dangerous behavior of panhandling there. The designs should be finalized soon, and I look forward to sharing those with you and getting this work started.

Have a great weekend. If my office can be of assistance in any way, please let me know.

General Election Voting Information

The Jefferson County Clerk's Office and the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office have created a useful flyer with information on the November 5 General Election. It includes all dates and locations for in-person excused absentee voting, in-person no excuse absentee voting, and information on election day voting as well. Hope you find it helpful!

Office of Planning Weekly Activity Report

Each week, the Louisville Metro Office of Planning creates a report listing all new land use applications in Jefferson County. These applications can include requests for changes in zoning, conditional use permits, variances, and more. There are a few cases in this week's report involving property in District 17:

  • Ford is requesting a Category 2B review to allow for the addition of three truck docks at the Kentucky Truck Plant as part of a 5,000 square foot renovation.
  • Owl Creek Country Club, 12400 N. Osage Road, is requesting approval of a landscape plan related to renovations at the club.
  • A minor plat has been requested to create two tracts from one at 10201 Brownsboro Road (adjacent to where the new Publix is being built).

For more information, click on the case number listed in the report. From that page, find the 'Record Info' tab and choose 'Attachments.' If you have any questions or comments, please contact the case manager listed.
