· The Mayor proposed $5M as an initial annual investment into universal Pre-K – This is an important topic but I have serious concerns with scope creep. The city does not have the budget to support public education and we should not expand our scope until everything is going well with what we are tasked with and I can assure you we are not there yet.

· Road infrastructure is not fully funded and we must continue on that pathway to ensure our cities roads are properly maintained.

· Public safety is prioritized in this budget and I will ensure it is always the first thing that we should be fully funding.

· There are no new taxes and no increases in taxes proposed but labor costs are rising and we must be careful not to make decisions today that will threaten our long term financial stability.

Speaking of budgets, the state budget did have a record amount of money dedicated to the city and other organizations within Louisville including UofL. This puts to bed the ‘war on Louisville’ narrative and proves that when you have a Mayor who is willing to meet with state lawmakers, great things can happen for our city. I want to thank our state delegation for their leadership and support of Louisville.

On Tuesday, we will debate an amended version of the Floyds Fork DRO ordinance. This is the culmination of almost 2 years of work by many, many people to make this code stronger to better balance development needs with the desire to have a waterway that our posterity can

enjoy. I want to thank everyone who had a part in crafting this legislation and I do believe we have a much better version that will be more sustainable for our city’s future.

At my next Coffee With Your Councilman on May 18th, we will be joined by one of our Deputy Mayors to get their perspective and answer questions about what is happening in our city. We will do that at Middletown City Hall. This is a unique opportunity to hear from both our legislative and executive branch so I hope you come out to interact with your local public servants.

Middle Housing Open House Events – NEW DATES & LOCATIONS ADDED!

Louisville Metro’s Office of Planning invites you to attend four (4) community open house events for Middle Housing! New dates and locations have been added at the Sun Valley Community Center and Locust Grove. Join us to learn more about the proposed amendment to the Land Development Code (LDC) that would allow Middle Housing throughout Louisville Metro, ask questions and discuss with Planning staff, and provide feedback. PGA Championship - Traffic Alert

In an effort to provide residents with information surrounding the PGA Championship and how the traffic flow will change, please reference the materials below.

What:  2024 PGA Championship

When: Monday, May 13 - Sunday, May 19, 2024

Where:  Valhalla Golf Club 15503 Shelbyville Road

Traffic Overview:
Exciting times are ahead as Louisville gears up for the PGA Championship at Valhalla Golf Club! As your local community resource, we want to ensure residents are well-informed and prepared for any potential traffic impacts during this event.

• Starting the week of April 29, motorists will see signage being installed along Shelbyville Road (U.S. 60) alerting residents of increased traffic. Motorists can expect a continual increase in traffic through May 12 as preparations for the tournament begin.
• Beginning Monday, May 13, Shelbyville Road will have lane restrictions and speed limit reductions from I-265 to Eastwood Cutoff Road. These temporary lane restrictions and speed limit reductions will remain in place through Sunday, May 19.

While these changes may cause some inconvenience, rest assured the priority is your safety. We advise exploring alternate routes to avoid delays. However, if you must use Shelbyville Road, please stay vigilant for temporary signage, traffic changes, and anticipate delays. LMPD and KYTC have been working diligently to make changes in anticipation of increased traffic on Shelbyville Road.

There will be no public parking, drop-offs, or walk-ins at or around Valhalla Golf Club. Residents and guests will not be allowed to walk from their homes to the PGA Championship.

Wild Lights Returns to Louisville Zoo

The Louisville Zoo is excited to announce the return of its popular lantern festival. Back for the fifth year with a lineup of new lanterns, Wild Lights runs select nights March 23 through May 19. Tickets are on sale now at louisvillezoo.org/wildlights.

Wild Lights guests will venture through the Zoo’s 1.4-mile path and experience hand-crafted, illuminated art displays. The event will feature more than 60 individual displays in themed areas depicting nature, coral reefs and Chinese mythology. Select area highlights include a blooming morning glory corridor, a 23-foot-tall octopus and a walk-through phoenix tunnel. Interactive lanterns invite guests to enhance the experience by powering lantern movements, competing in games and more. This 38-night immersive event features live cultural performances including Chinese folk dances, acrobatics and more. There will also be unique handcrafted goods available for purchase along with snacks and cocktails by Service Systems Associates — the Zoo’s food and amenity vendor.

The event is wheelchair and stroller-friendly on a paved path. The festival is a rain or shine event and will be held 7 – 10 p.m. Thursday through Sunday nights from March 23 – May 19, 2024. In addition, Wild Lights will run every night during JCPS Spring Break, April 1 – 5, 2024. The Zoo will host a special preview night exclusively for Louisville Zoo members on March 22.

Wild Lights is in partnership with Stewart Promotions and Tianyu Arts & Culture Inc., an international event design company.
