My 'Coffee with your Councilman' scheduled for Thursday, March 14 at MozzaPi, 12102 LaGrange Road, will need to be postponed. The Metro Council has a series of meetings scheduled next week that may not be complete by Thursday. That being the case, I think it best to postpone our coffee meeting until later this month. I will share the new date as soon as I can. Thank you for understanding!
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) continues making progress on the installation of noise barriers along the Gene Snyder Freeway related to the I-Move project. There are three areas of focus in our district: Winchester Acres, Indian Springs, and Brownhurst Manor (this barrier actually extends from Old Brownsboro Gardens to a point south of Chamberlain Court). The foundations, about three-fourths of the work associated with these barriers, were completed this week near Winchester Acres. The foundations for Indian Springs are already in place, so the next step will be installing the columns at these two locations. That work should begin next week. The 'Brownhurst Manor' noise barrier will be the last one done in our district. For more information on noise barriers in general, click here.
Our first Pop-Up Drop-Off of the year will be Saturday, March 16 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Metro Fleet Services, 3515 Newburg Road. As you probably know by now, these recycling and large item disposal events are free for residents of Jefferson County. Metro Public Works has scheduled one of these a month through November, so there will be other opportunities if you can't make this one. Click here for the full schedule or a more complete list of what is accepted at these events.
Did you know you can save hundreds off your property taxes each year with the Homestead & Disability Exemption? Residents 65 and older or those who are declared totally disabled and own and occupy their residence can apply. This year's exemption consists of $46,350 off your home's taxable value. Click here to apply/learn more or call 574-6380 to request a paper application.
Assuming the weather cooperates (which doesn't look likely!), work should begin today on a project designed to slow traffic and improve safety on Ormsby Station Road just outside our district. The project includes repaving and restriping the roadway to reduce it from two lanes in each direction to one lane in each direction with a buffered bicycle/scooter lane (see above). Once begun, work should take about one week to complete.
Metro Public Works has scheduled the following paving projects near our district to begin next week. Please note this schedule could be delayed due to weather or other unforeseen issues.
- Ormsby Station Road from N. Hurstbourne Parkway to N. Hurstbourne Parkway (as explained above)
- Mill Brook Road from Whipps Mill Road to Ormsby Station Road
- UPS Drive from Whipps Mill Road to Ormsby Station Road
- Two stub roads that connect Ormsby Station Road and Mill Brook Road to the Northeast Regional Library
Each week, Metro Planning and Design Services creates a report listing all new land use applications in Jefferson County. These typically include changes in zoning, conditional use permits, variances, and more. There is one request in our district this week, an application to close what was once right-of-way for Old Henry Road at 12707 Old Henry Road. There are also two cases just outside our district: a revised development plan for an office warehouse at 13105 Middletown Industrial Boulevard and a revised landscape plan for a heavy equipment storage facility at 13600 Terra View Trail. Please contact the case managers listed in the report with any questions or comments.
