Martin Luther King Jr. Day to be observed on Monday, January 15

MLK Jr. image from IT

The Martin Luther King Jr. federal holiday falls on the 15th this year, the actual birthday of the celebrated civil rights leader. He was assassinated 56 years ago.

We honor the pastor and activist and his fight against inequality and racial injustice. We remain committed to his legacy of working toward a more just and fair society.

Holiday closings and collection schedule changes

Louisville Metro Hall will be closed for the Federal holiday Monday, January 15.

There will be no waste collection on Monday, January 15 within the Urban Services District in observance of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day holiday. Collection will resume Tuesday, January 16 and will be delayed by one day for the rest of the week. Residents serviced by private companies should check with those companies for the holiday schedule.

The staffed recycling drop-off locations, HazBin, and Waste Reduction Center will be closed on Saturday, January 13 in observance of the holiday.

Download our free Recycle Coach app to sign up for holiday reminders and more.

Crosswalk safety improvements added at Hess Lane and Pindell Avenue

Hess and Pindell crosswalk sensor lights

Good news: the crosswalk at Hess Lane and Pindell Avenue has been updated with refreshed markings and crosswalk illuminators. The crosswalk signs light up the crossing and pedestrian at night when the crosswalk is activated.

A busy intersection near Audubon Elementary School, Audubon Baptist Church, and St. Stephen Martyr Catholic Church and School, the crossing is also used by people who walk and bicycle in Audubon Park.

Thanks to the team at Louisville Metro Public Works for their work in making this safety improvement.
