Councilmen Mulvihill, Reno-Weber and Owen launch Fitbit Challenge to LMPD 5th Division officers
Workout activity challenges are increasingly popular. Councilman Mulvihill, along with Councilmen Ben Reno-Weber of D-8 and Andrew Owen of D-9, are collaborating with the Louisville Metro Police Department on a Fitbit incentive challenge for the officers of the 5th Division.
The 5th Division is mostly comprised of council districts 8 and 9, but also includes sections of districts 10, 16 and 26. The officers participating in this challenge will mainly be walking routes on Bardstown Road, Frankfort Avenue, and parts of Brownsboro Road.
As part of the challenge, 20 Fitbit devices have been provided to 5th Division officers. These officers will then wear the trackers to accumulate as many steps as they can during their shifts. Every week, the officer with the most steps will be awarded a gift certificate or complimentary meal from a 5th Division local eatery.
The challenge adds incentive for officers to walk during their shifts and interact with the community.
“LMPD’s 5th Division is excited to take part in this opportunity. To my knowledge this is first time LMPD has engaged in this type of activity so it should be an exciting challenge. I feel this is a great time to get out there and engage the community in a unique way. Hopefully, we develop some positive relationships with our neighbors and wear some holes in our boots,” said Major Jason Grissom, 5th Division Commander.
