+ Courier Journal: Khalil Batshon, a son of immigrants, now looks to serve as Louisville Metro councilman
Khalil Batshon pictured at Khalil's on Dixie (Picture by Courier Journal)
"Just over a week after winning his race for Louisville Metro Council in November, Khalil Batshon was busy working on Southwest Community Ministries' annual Christmas assistance program − a "hand up" his own family received when he was a little kid in the South End.
It was one of his first holiday seasons growing up, and his mother invited him to go with her to pick up some early presents.
"What 5 or 6 year old doesn't want to say yes to go pick up Christmas gifts?" said Batshon, now a 36-year-old restaurant owner. "And I remember it being the biggest Christmas we ever had."
Roughly 30 years later, Batshon serves as vice chair at Southwest Community Ministries and has three of his own children with his wife, Tabatha. He also has a career, running the decade-old sports bar and restaurant Khalil's on Dixie Highway."
