Friday Thoughts

Happy Friday!

As we continue through the budget process, we recognize the importance of public input. Last year, the Democratic Caucus came up with a series of strategic priorities (Infrastructure, Public Safety, Economic Development, Economic Mobility, and Racial Equity) that underpin a legislative and budget strategy. To further integrate those pillars into our work, we are hosting five public discussions over the next couple of weeks with the first two taking place this weekend. Tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. at the Northeast Regional Library, we will discuss infrastructure. Sunday at 3:00 p.m., we'll meet at the West Louisville YMCA to discuss economic mobility. If you would like to be part of the conversation (either in person or virtually) for these or any of the subsequent meetings, please use the registration link in the "FY22 Budget" article below. We want to hear how you think your tax dollars should be spent, and this is a great opportunity to be part of the process!

In other news, we are very excited about the updated CDC guidance and governor’s orders. In just a few short weeks we can expect the "new normal" to look a lot more like the "old normal."  I can't wait for a summer of picnics, festivals, and other gatherings that we missed out on over the past year. Please do your part to ensure we can continue these events by getting vaccinated. Please click here to find a location near you.

Finally, don’t forget we have a free recycling and large item disposal event at Eastern High School tomorrow. You can find more information below, but this is a great opportunity to complete your "spring cleaning" and get rid of any items not normally picked up in your trash service.

I hope you have a great weekend and hope to see you at one of these or some other event soon!

Pop-Up Drop-Offs are free recycling and large item disposal events for residents of Jefferson County. They are held monthly, from March to November, at various locations around the county. The first two events of the year helped residents properly dispose of 572 tires, almost 12,000 pounds of metal, and more than 5,000 pounds of household recycling items. The next event will be tomorrow from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Eastern High School. For more information on this event, please click here
