Update: Vacant properties and Vacant Lots grass cutting

.

I'm sure everyone has noticed that the entire city is behind on grass maintenance. I want to take the time to explain to you what has been causing the delays, and I want to update you on how we are moving forward.

Here's the thing ...

It is obvious that we are having to make daily adjustments due to the COVID epidemic. Louisville Metro's Codes & Regulations department, which oversees the grass maintenance in the Louisville Metro Area, is no exception to that fact.

During the summer months, Codes and Regulations has used inmates from Metro Corrections to assist crews in grass cutting -- but because of COVID they are unable to use inmates this year, making them four crews short.

In addition, Codes & Regulations, like every other business in Louisville, have their own COVID regulations and policies that they have to abide by. With that being said, they've been about two crews short at all times and are now working at a 50% capacity.

The Good News: Bring in the Contractors!

A solution was brought fourth that would now allow Codes and Regulations to use contractors to help with the workload. What does this mean for the lot on your block?  It means that now that contractors are beginning to get the excess work, they will be able to help the city catch up. There are only a few more weeks left in the grass cutting season, we will get through this!

In conclusion ...

I understand that this information may not resolve the frustration that you may have. However, I am hoping this will allow you to have a little more compassion and understanding during these difficult times. Every person, family, business, company and government organization has had to make adjustments.  We are all in this together.
