Farming Forward In Kent County

Last week, about 30 farmers from Kent, Ottawa, and nearby counties braved a blustery morning at the historic King Milling Company in Lowell for their third annual workshop. Farmers got tips on succession planning, connecting retiring farmers with new producers through MIFarmLink, protecting land with agricultural easements, and solving tricky conflicts with help from the Dispute Resolution Center of West Michigan.
Hosted by the Kent-Ottawa Land Transfer Program and supported by American Farmland Trust and the Natural Resources Conservation Service, the Farming Forward event focused on keeping our farmland protected and helping farms pass to the next generation.
By supporting these efforts, we’re helping keep farming strong in our communities - now and for the future.

Kent County thanks Lowell’s King Milling Co. for generously hosting this year’s event, and presenters including Varnum LLP Attorney Dean Reisner, Dispute Resolution Center of West Michigan executive director Christine Gilman, and MIFarmLink Region 6 representative Paul Gross for sharing their expertise.

Transit Employee Appreciation
Our Community Action team celebrated National Transit Employee Appreciation Day on March 18 by highlighting the people who are often behind the scenes, or bus doors.
Our incredible transit team shows up every day with dedication, patience, and compassion to make sure members of our community can get where they need to go safely.
Last year alone, the KCCA transit team drove over 116,000 miles across Kent County, providing 12,253 rides for seniors and people with disabilities. Each trip represents more than transportation - it means access to medical appointments, groceries, community connections, and independence.
Through early mornings, busy roads, and unpredictable weather, our drivers continue to go above and beyond for the people we serve. Their kindness, professionalism, and commitment help make every ride a positive experience.
Please join us in thanking our amazing drivers for the difference they make in our community every single day!
