THE WEEK IN REVIEW
May 10, 2024
Al Vanderberg, County Administrator
Good Afternoon Chair Stek and Commissioners,
It's been a fantastic week! On Saturday, I had the pleasure of attending Corewell Health's West Michigan Gala, where the need for more research, support, and collaboration in the fight against cancer emphasized. What a night!
We also celebrated with DPW on Thursday at the ribbon cutting for the new North Kent Transfer Station.
We have our last Quadrant Meeting on Wednesday (May 15) at our North Kent Campus in Cedar Springs. I hope to see everyone at this meeting as we close out this round of discussions with our local officials.
I wish everyone a delightful Mother's Day weekend.

Facilities Update
Below is an update on three facilities projects along with a detailed project timeline for the administration building:
New Administration Building
- Programming interviews with all 14 departments and the Sheriff's Office for security have been completed. These interviews aimed to understand each department’s wants, requirements, successful aspects within their current space, ideal adjacency with other departments, and overall spatial needs.
- We anticipate having conceptual plans in the next month with options for where the building goes on the Fuller Campus and early concepts of what it might look like.
- On April 9, we released a Request for a Quote for construction management. Ten (10) responses were initially received and three (3) companies are scheduled for interviews on May 14,
- This supports an integrated project delivery style which has been proven to deliver projects faster and more cost effectively.
- An Action Request has been drafted requesting the project be sent to the Building Authority. It is expected that this issue will be taken up at the May 21 Finance and Physical Resources Committee and the full Board on June 13.
Medical Examiner
- Continuing through the schematic design process with a roughly 12,000 square foot building.
- The Facilities team is meeting on May 21 to review the design team’s latest iteration including updated exterior elevations, site plan, and room layouts.
- The goal is to have final plans ready to bid in early 2025 for construction in 2025-2026.
- We will need to a Request for Proposal to bring a construction manager on board to support the project in the next couple of months.
Fallasburg Dam
- Engineering bids for sheet pile wall and embankment reinforcement awarded to Barr Engineering.
- Anticipate work being bid for construction in July with construction work this Fall.
- Separate design will also be completed by Barr Engineering this Fall/Winter to reinforce concrete on dam with construction anticipated in Spring 2025.
