Mayor Finkam joins senators
U.S. Senators Jim Banks and Elizabeth Warren are helping to tackle the issue of high costs and long wait times for fire trucks, a matter Carmel Mayor Sue Finkam has called attention to in recent months.
“I am encouraged that our national leaders are supporting the needs of municipalities in acquiring critical equipment in the face of both cost escalations and shortages,” Mayor Finkam said.
The issue made national headlines in April with Mayor Finkam interviewed by The New York Times, the only mayor quoted in the story. Her comments focused on what is truly a national security issue, given the role first responders would play when communities face a severe weather event, terrorism or other emergency.
Central Indiana media outlets have actively covered the fire truck access and shortage issue, as well, including The Indianapolis Business Journal, which featured an interview with Carmel Fire Department Chief Joel Thacker.
