Lake County Celebrates 211 Day. Find Help with Three Numbers
Lake County joins United Way of Lake County and community partners to celebrate 211 Day, bringing attention to this invaluable resource available to all Lake County residents.
Finding help is only three numbers away. If you need access to find food, healthcare, shelter, or other services, call 211 or text your zip code to 898211 to speak with someone who can help 24/7. Speak to a live person in English or Spanish when you call. The 211 team will also interpret more than 150 languages. The service is free and confidential. Learn more

Leaders Meet to Discuss 2023 Legislative Initiatives
Lake County along with local municipalities recently met with elected federal and state officials at an annual legislative breakfast. The County spoke about legislation it supports and opposes as well as funding opportunities for Lake County’s capital priorities.
If funded, these priorities would improve public safety, reduce traffic congestion, enhance water and sewer service, and other important issues at the local level. Learn more about Lake County’s legislative priorities by viewing the 2023 Legislative Program.

Federal Program Helps Residents Afford Broadband They Need
The Affordable Connectivity Program is a Federal Communications Commission program that helps connect families and households struggling to afford internet service.
This new benefit provides a discount of up to $30 per month toward broadband service for eligible households and up to $75 per month for households on qualifying Tribal lands. Eligible households can also receive a one-time discount of up to $100 to purchase a laptop, desktop computer, or tablet from participating providers.
Eligible households can enroll through a participating broadband provider or directly with the Universal Service Administrative Company using an online or mail-in application.

Summer Adventures Programs Planned
Registration for our popular Summer Adventures programs opens on February 15. The programs will be available for children and teenagers ages 4 to 16.
Participants can enjoy engaging nature and history education programs such as Boots of a Biologist (ages 9 to 11), Nature's Art Studio (ages 6 to 8), Nature Curiosity (ages 4 to 5 with parent) and Time Travelers (ages 9 to 11). Registration opens February 15 online and at 847-968-3320. Learn more »

New Director of Public Safety Hired
The Forest Preserves hired Ron Davis, a 34-year law enforcement veteran, as director of public safety to replace retiring director, John Tannahill.
Davis most recently served as commander with the Metro Police Department in Chicago, the third-largest transit policing organization in the United States. He plans to bike the nearly 200 miles of rideable trails in the preserves during his first year. Read more »

Buckthorn-Free Flags Available
Since debuting them in September, we have approved 23 "buckthorn-free" garden flag applications from Lake County residents. One recipient, Bob Lee, who also volunteers for the Forest Preserves, shared a photo of himself with the flag installed in his yard.
Flags are free of charge to Lake County residents who do not have European buckthorn on their property. Apply today »

Join Meeting for the Lewis Avenue Corridor Modernization Project
The Lake County Division of Transportation (LCDOT) is hosting a public meeting from 5 to 7 p.m. Feb. 23 to introduce the Lewis Avenue Corridor Modernization study. The meeting, which will be held in an open house format, will take place at John R. Lewis Middle School, 600 S. Lewis Ave., Waukegan.
The area being studied is a 2.9-mile corridor along Lewis Avenue from IL 137 to Belvidere Road in the cities of North Chicago and Waukegan. Learn more

Protect Your Tap! Check to See if You Have Lead Pipes
 Lake County Public Works (LCPW) and all water service agencies across the country have been working to develop lead service line inventories as part of new regulations that went into effect to protect communities from lead exposure.
A service line is the water pipe that delivers drinking water from the public water main to a home or business. A portion of the service line is on your property and owned by you. This portion of the service line can be composed of lead if installed before 1988.
LCPW is encouraging all LCPW water customers that own structures built in 1988 or earlier, to check the water service line in their home.
LCPW serves approximately 30,000 water customers, mostly in the unincorporated areas. Check your latest water bill to see who supplies water to your home or business. View this list of FAQs to learn more about lead and your water supply.
New Public Works App to Report Service Issues
Residents who live within unincorporated Lake County can use a new app, CitizenVUE to engage and report public works issues on a mobile device. If you spot a concern, such as a watermain break, service disruption, water pressure problems or sewer backup, submit a service request right from your phone. Apply for Permanent Vote by Mail Status
Voters may now apply for permanent vote-by-mail status and automatically receive a ballot in all subsequent elections. A voter remains in a permanent status until the voter requests to be removed, the voter provides notice to the County Clerk’s Office of a change in registration outside of Lake County or our office receives confirmation that the voter has registered to vote in another county.

Watch All County Board and Committee Meetings

All Lake County board and committee meetings can be viewed on lakecounty.tv and on cable television (Comcast channels 18 or 30, depending on where you live, and AT&T U-Verse Channel 99).
The public also is welcome to attend all meetings in person at the Lake County Administrative Tower, 18 N. County Street, Waukegan or may attend meetings remotely using the registration link on the front page of each meeting’s agenda.
Individuals attending meetings in person or remotely may present their public comments during the meeting. Those not in attendance may provide written public comment via email or by mail. View the current meeting schedule. All meetings are recorded and are posted on the Lake County website.
