Thank you Tony Gundrum for sending me this photo from Boy Scout Troop 188, of Lake Villa, camp out. The Boys had a lot of fun in the snow building this massive snowman! Randy Bernhardt is Scout Master and Tony is one of this troops Assistant Scout Leaders.
This past snow storm took many by surprise but it was one of the best opportunities to get out and see some of nature's beauty! I took the picture below of sunset at Duck Farm Forest Preserve.

The Illinois Tollway Board is considering moving
forward with detailed engineering studies for the proposed IL Route 53/120
project. This next phase will study the project in extensive detail, including
analyzing alternatives and the potential environmental impacts, and will
include a robust public information and engagement piece. Some residents
believe we should widen existing roads instead of investing in IL 53, but our
studies show these alternatives aren’t feasible because they are more costly
and wouldn’t include the enhanced environmental standards called for in the IL
Route 53/120 consensus plan. Watch as
Lake County Engineer Paula Trigg explains more in this video. More information: www.ilroute53.org.

The Lake County Division of Transportation (LCDOT) has
opened the new roundabout at River Road and Roberts Road in Lake Barrington.
This is the fifth roundabout in Lake County. In many locations, roundabouts
provide safer and more efficient traffic flow than standard intersections and
they are a key component of the Lake County highway system. Watch
this video as Bill and Ryan from LCDOT get behind the wheel
and teach you how to drive in a roundabout. |

The County Board has adopted the 2016 budget, a balanced budget that is
$7 million less than last year and includes a 13% drop in total employees from
a decade ago. Approved at the Nov. 10 Board meeting, the budget allocates $414
million dollars to core services, such as courts and public safety,
transportation, and health services. The County’s tax levy on existing
properties also will stay stable. The County’s portion of a property tax bill
is about 7%. Lake County is fiscally stable due to the Board’s focus on
strategic, long-term, data-driven decisions and the Board’s commitment to
fiscal responsibility. We continue to invest in our infrastructure like roads, and
focus on operational efficiencies, including sharing services with other
governments. We are also using data to align operational staffing levels to
amount of workload. The uncertainty of the State budget and potential State
funding cuts continue to place significant pressure on our budget. Read
the FY 2016 Budget. Also, watch this video to find out where the money comes from, where it goes, and how we are spending your money wisely.
