Open
enrollment for plans in the Health Insurance Marketplace runs Nov. 1, 2015 –
Jan. 31, 2016
Enroll Lake County!, the
county-wide initiative designed to facilitate access to healthcare for Lake
County residents, returns for its third annual enrollment drive. A project of
the Lake County Health Department and Community Health Center in partnership
with the Waukegan Public Library, Enroll Lake County! aims to enroll or
re-enroll at least 3,000 Lake County residents in health insurance plans
through the Health Insurance Marketplace. The Marketplace will open for three
months, from November 1, 2015 through January 31, 2016. Certified navigators
will be in place at various sites throughout the county to answer questions and
help residents enroll or re-enroll in health insurance plans through the
Marketplace or Medicaid. Appointments may be requested in English and Spanish
by calling (847) 775-2582 or (847) 377-4999.
The Enroll Lake County! program
has been very successful in decreasing the total number of county-wide
uninsured in the previous two years. At the start of the program in 2014, 11%
of Lake County residents were uninsured. By the end of the initiative’s second
year (2015), the number of uninsured had dropped to 5%. Enroll Lake County!
will place special focus on enrolling residents who do not speak English as a
primary language, as they are disproportionately uninsured.
The Lake County Health Department
and Community Health Center, in partnership with the Waukegan Public Library,
will coordinate with four local agencies as its Year 3 Grant Partners: A Safe
Place, Mano a Mano, Moraine Township, and the YWCA Lake County.
Residents who enrolled in a
health insurance plan through the Marketplace last year must re-enroll this
year or be automatically re-enrolled in their current plan. Those interested in
exploring healthcare options through the Marketplace are encouraged to contact
Enroll Lake County! for an appointment with a certified navigator.
