I always enjoy this time of year when we reflect on our past and look forward to improvements we can make in ourselves for our future. Actually, this should be an ongoing process to always strive for good outcomes. Please don't hesitate to communicate with me on any suggestions or current service comments about our government. We must always be creative and work together on bringing new thoughts forward to provide the services required to help our communities.
Lake County has installed electric vehicle charging stations at its county facilities, which are FREE for public use. These stations provide electric energy to recharge plug-in electric vehicles, including all-electric cars, neighborhood electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids. Electric vehicle owners must have a ChargePoint membership to access the County’s charging stations.
You can charge your electric vehicle for free at one of these locations: Lake County Health Department, 3010 Grand Ave., Waukegan Lake County Central Permit Facility, 500 W. Winchester Rd., Libertyville
These charging stations may be used no longer than two hours. Visitors who park beyond that limit may have cars towed at the owner’s expense. Regular parking fees, if any, will still apply. Learn more about how Lake County is promoting a sustainable environment, and find out how you can "Take Action" in greening your home, business and community by visiting our Sustainability Web Portal.

LCFPD Calendar of Programs and Events Hike our LCFPD Trails
Several months ago when I learned that members and staff of the Lake County Board involved with the Route 53 project were suggesting a 4 cent a gallon tax increase and increased tolls amounts to fill the gap in the costs of the 2.6 billion dollar Route 53 project, I asked our Finance Committee and our Chairman Aaron Lawlor for a forum for the Lake County Board to discuss the matter. Last week at Committee of the Whole of the Lake County Board we were given an update on events with the tollway as well as the Route 53 task force.
I publicly objected to any increase in 4 cent a gallon gas tax increase and an increase in tolls directed towards the Route 53 project. My concern is cost to my tax payers as well as the safety of Route 41 from drivers averting 294 because of increased tollway costs.
While I was hoping to discuss a County Board consensus, most of my fellow board members were silent on this subject. Those that were working on the route 53 project expressed that increased tolls and gas tax was all still up in the air and somewhat out of our control.
I strongly believe that a specific vote should be taken on if the Lake County Board would accept or ask for these tax increases and until the Lake County Board votes on these increases it should not be represented that the Lake County Board is willing to increase taxes and fees across our county. Residents Selected To Complete Health Survey
Across Lake County, 5,000
randomly selected households will be invited to participate in an anonymous
survey. By answering questions about health status and activities, respondents
will help the Lake County Health Department and Community Health Center and
community partners better plan for and conduct interventions that promote
long-term health for all residents of Lake County. If you receive an
invitation, respond via the online form or the toll-free number. Survey results
will be available early next year.
New Meningitis Vaccine Requirement As the new school year begins, parents should take note of new school-entrance vaccination requirements, which include a meningitis vaccination. All students entering the sixth and twelfth grades are required to show proof of receiving this vaccination. All sixth graders are required to show proof of one dose of this vaccine and all twelfth graders need to show proof of receiving two doses, unless the first dose was administered after 16 years of age. In this case, only one dose is required. Illinois implemented these new requirements to prevent meningococcal outbreaks, since the disease is frequently very severe. The state’s deadline is Oct. 15, but many schools in Lake County have imposed earlier deadlines. Children eligible for the Vaccines for Children program can receive the vaccine at the Lake County Health Department’s Immunization Clinic. To make an appointment, call: (847) 377-8470.
