The
Lake County Sheriff’s Office is currently accepting applications for Reserve
Deputies. Sheriff Curran stated, “We’re looking for folks that are interested
in law enforcement and volunteering to assist their communities. We rely on our reserve
deputies for assistance in traffic and crowd control, missing persons and
evidence searches as well as DUI patrols. They provide a tremendous value to law enforcement communities throughout Lake County.”
Interested
candidates must be at least 21 years of age, U.S. citizens and high school
graduates (or equivalent). Candidates must be of good moral character, have no
criminal record and be in good general health. Most duties performed by a
reserve deputy require standing for long periods of time. Illinois state law
requires reserve deputies to be residents of the county they serve. Once
recruited, reserve deputies must pass the Reserve Deputy Unit Recruit Basic
Training Course (RBTC).
Applications
are available at the Lake County Sheriff’s Administration Office located at 25
S. Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue in Waukegan, or at the Lake County Sheriff’s Reserve Deputy website at www.reservedeputy.com. Candidates must have their
application in by September 30, 2015. For further information contact
Deputy Sgt. Ted Sittig at 847-377-7020.
In
2014, reserve deputies volunteered 10,127 hours assisting communities
throughout Lake County. According to Independent Sector, the national value of
volunteer time is $23.07 per hour making the 10,127 volunteer hours a value of $233,630.
