The City understands that the ongoing fire alarm testing at Ryan Field has created significant noise impact for nearby residents and businesses. We recognize that the repeated alarms can be intrusive and appreciate the community’s patience as this work continues.
We released a notice last week about the ongoing testing. The tests will continue through this week and into the following week.
As a reminder, the City’s building and fire protection codes require that, during the initial testing phase, each fire alarm device must be tested and fully activate the stadium’s alarm system, including audible alerts.
Once the contractor completes this initial round of testing, the Evanston Fire Department (EFD) must certify that the alarm system is fully operational, which includes additional testing. Contractor acceptance testing is on track to be completed this Friday, October 9. Following the contractor’s testing, the Evanston Fire Department will begin its phase of acceptance testing on Monday, October 12. EFD’s testing is expected to take at least one week to complete. Once that phase is complete, EFD may be able to identify ways to reduce the frequency and impact of the repetitive alarms while their team conducts acceptance testing.
In the meantime, the City Manager has directed that alarm testing remain limited to 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. This schedule is intended to minimize the impact on the community while allowing the required testing to continue and the project to be completed in accordance with applicable safety codes.
It is necessary to verify that the stadium’s fire protection and alarm systems are properly installed and functioning as required to help ensure public safety during stadium events. We appreciate the neighbors’ ongoing patience, understanding, and flexibility throughout this process.
