Plus, see our Halloween costume contest winner!
Find your perfect summer job – earlier than ever!
Evanston youth ages 14 to 18 years are encouraged to find their perfect summer job by participating in the 2023 Mayor's Summer Youth Employment Program (MSYEP). The City is hosting two jobs fairs this year, allowing participants to secure summer employment earlier than ever.
Mark your calendar: The first job fair will take place on Fri., Nov. 11 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Robert Crown Community Center. A second job fair is scheduled for January 6.
Call for employers: Looking to hire some great local talent? Interested employers should complete the 2023 MSYEP Job Request Form by November 7.
Call for participants: Youth must register for the job fair in advance by November 7.
Go green this Halloween!
Rescue your Halloween pumpkins and jack-o’-lanterns from withering on the front porch (or being eaten by squirrels) by dropping them off to be composted at the 7th annual “It's the Great Pumpkin Compost” Collection event this Sat., Nov. 5, 9 a.m. to noon, at the Morton Civic Center parking lot.
Did you know? Food waste, including plain, clean pumpkins, can also "ride along" in food and yard waste carts with grass clippings and leaves.
Let's talk about the budget!
The City released its 2023 Proposed Budget, which prioritizes infrastructure investments, climate action and community development.
Get involved: A Budget Town Hall will take place tonight, Thurs., Nov. 3 at 6 p.m. at the Evanston Ecology Center. Stop by to learn and share your input. View our previous Budget Town Hall in Spanish.
Learn about participatory budgeting: Want to play a direct role in spending the City's budget? Now you can, with participatory budgeting! The City has allocated $3 million of American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding to this process, which will occur from late 2022 into the fall of 2023. Learn more at pbevanston.org, view the participatory budgeting rulebook, or watch our short video.

From cookies to catalyst!
Congratulations to former Mayor Elizabeth Tisdahl, who received the Evanston/Northwestern Catalyst Award at last night's MashUp event! See how Mayor Tisdahl's simple gesture of baking cookies for a new neighbor helped transform town-gown relations in Evanston.

And the winner is...
Thank you to everyone who submitted their Halloween costume photos for our Community Halloween Costume Contest! Our staff picked the Level Ballet 8 photo submitted by Chicago Ballet Arts as their favorite. The students, who picked Alice in Wonderland to be this year's theme, put together the costumes themselves.
That’s it for today's e-news. Thanks for reading!
Sincerely,
