Levy Senior Center Building Update
Levy Senior Center will be closed to in-person transactions at the front desk until Thursday, December 17. Registration and transactions can still be taken via phone or online. For phone transactions, please call the front desk at 847-448-8250. The building is closed to the general public.

The Levy Senior Center is hoping to keep as many people as possible healthy and active as possible throughout the cold winter months. The winter session of classes will begin the week of January 4. Introduction to Japanese Language and Culture through Music
 Atsuko (Ann) Noguchi returns to the Levy Senior Center through a new and engaging program. Students will learn the basics of the Japanese language and will gain a better understanding of Japanese culture and music. Classes are small for individualized attention. Space is limited. Healthy Hands Cooking Class: Legacy Chef
 This program consists of an 8-week cooking class session with our legacy chef. Students will learn the benefits of healthy cooking and some simple recipes that can be made at home. Along with educating and cooking, there will be fun and interactive activities that will keep students on their toes. Weekly topics include: Apple of My Eye, Omni-Oats, Oh Cucumber, Mighty is Thy Mint, Burst of Grapes, The Sweet Scent of Cinnamon, He Loves You Honey and Melodies of Melon. Online Cheesemaking Class
Learn the techniques for making your own cheese. We’ll cover the science behind cheese making, ingredients, equipment, and cooking techniques. Lemon cheese will be demoed. You will need the following supplies and ingredients 1/2 gallon whole milk (pasteurized, not ultra-pasteurized), juice of 2-3 large lemons (about 1/4 cup), non-iodized salt, herbs (optional), pot large enough to hold 1/2 gallon of milk, colander, large bowl (to catch the whey), large spoon (to stir the curd-whey mixture), cheesecloth (real cheesecloth, not the stuff from art or fabric stores), stove (for heating the pot of milk), string and a place to hang a bag of curd and whey. Our Power as Playwrights
 Join the Levy Senior Center Foundation on Tuesday, December 8, 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. for the next LSCF lecture. Award-winning playwright Gloria Bond Clunie will talk about her theatrical journey and explore how the basic tools of playwriting can help us all lead more powerful lives. If you love the theater, you’ll enjoy this first-hand account from a star playwright and director. Registration is required.
Intro to American Sign Language
 In this program you'll learn the history of American Sign Language (ASL), deaf culture, and the basics of sign language, such as the alphabet, numbers, greetings, family, and other common sayings. This course will include opportunities for you to learn and practice the language in each class through activities, games, and presentations. Emily Kulacz is an ASL teacher at Evanston Township High School, with a background in Deaf Education. Students will need to have a Google account to share and view documents and learning resources. This program will be presented via Zoom only. Register online or by calling the Levy Senior Center at 847-448-8250.
