Demitrous Cook Sworn In as Police Chief

On Wed., Jan. 2, Demitrous Cook was sworn in as Evanston police chief. Chief Cook previously served 26 years at the Evanston Police Department, including six years as deputy chief of police, before becoming chief of the Glenwood Police Department in 2010. Watch video of the swearing-in ceremony.

Recycle Holiday String Lighting

Holiday Lights


As you undeck the halls this month, holiday string lighting and extension cords can be recycled at three convenient Evanston locations! Through Thurs., Jan. 31, lights can be dropped off at the Levy Center, Ecology Center and the main Evanston Public Library.

Christmas Tree Pickup Through February 1

Tree pick-up


City crews will pick up Christmas trees through Fri., Feb. 1 on residents' regular trash and recycling collection day. Trees should be placed on the parkway, in between the street and the sidewalk, and all decorations should be removed. Please do not place trees in plastic bags.
