April 26 Community Meeting About the Future of Harley Clarke

Please join me for a special community meeting about proposed plans for the Harley Clarke property, Wednesday, April 26, 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., in the Parasol Room, 4th floor, Morton Civic Center, 2100 Ridge Ave.

In September 2016, the City Council directed the Parks, Recreation and Community Services Board and the Lighthouse Landing Complex Committee to develop a plan for the future operation of the Harley Clarke property. Since November, a planning committee comprised of members of these two groups has been meeting monthly with interested residents to discuss proposals for the property. The committee has focused in particular on the proposal for an environmental education center developed by Evanston Lakehouse and Gardens.

Plan to join us on April 26 for a presentation about the proposed environmental education center and the financial plan behind it  and share your thoughts about this important community asset.

Canal Shores Golf Course Recognized by Audubon International

    Canal Shores Logo

The Canal Shores Golf Course has been designated as a Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary through the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program for Golf Courses. It is one of 53 golf courses in Illinois and 894 in the world to hold this title. Canal Shores also certified its sixth hole as a National Wildlife Federation habitat in 2014.

The Evanston Wilmette Golf Course Association began working towards Audubon certification in 2015, recognizing the course's proximity to migratory birds' flight paths and the opportunity to enhance the property's natural areas and wildlife habitat. The designation fits closely with the association's efforts to develop and implement a comprehensive ecological plan for the golf course. (Read more about the Ecological Master Plan.)

    Congratulations, Canal Shores!
