Greetings!
Please join me for a special community meeting about
proposed plans for the Harley Clarke property, Wednesday, April 26, 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., in the Parasol Room, 4th floor, Morton
Civic Center, 2100 Ridge Ave.
In September 2016, the City Council directed the Parks, Recreation and Community Services Board and the Lighthouse Landing Complex Committee to develop a plan
for the future operation of the Harley Clarke property. Since November, a
planning committee comprised of members of these two groups has been meeting monthly
with interested residents to discuss proposals for the property. The committee
has focused in particular on the proposal for an environmental education center
developed by Evanston Lakehouse and Gardens.
Plan to join us on April 26 for a presentation about the proposed
environmental education center and the financial plan behind it – and share
your thoughts about this important community asset.
The Evanston Art Center's annual Spring Arts & Craft Show features a selection of arts and crafts by 20 artists working in ceramics, fiber, jewelry, painting and photography. Stop in for an evening of wine and shopping tonight, Wednesday, April 12, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Or, come by Thursday through Sunday, April 13-16, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the EAC, 1717 Central St.
Participate in the City's annual Earth Day and Arbor Day community clean-up event on Saturday, April 22, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Registration is now open for clean-up locations throughout the city. The Evanston Ecology Center will also host free, family-friendly Earth Day festivities and nature play that morning, and a tree planting ceremony will take place in front of the Morton Civic Center at 10 a.m. to celebrate the City’s longstanding Tree City USA designation.

Making Peace: Stories of Healing is the title of a program about
two women's journeys towards healing after devastating and violent loss. Jeanne
Bishop and Karli Butler will talk about their struggles and steps forward,
sharing their experiences with the restorative power of forgiveness. Sponsored
by Peaceable Cities:
Evanston, the program will take place Tuesday, April 25, 7 p.m., in the
Linden Room at the Levy Center, 300 Dodge Ave.

The Canal Shores Golf Course has
been designated as a Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary through the
Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program for Golf Courses. It is one of 53 golf
courses in Illinois and 894 in the world to hold this title. Canal Shores also
certified its sixth hole as a National Wildlife Federation habitat in 2014.
The Evanston Wilmette Golf
Course Association began working towards Audubon certification in 2015,
recognizing the course's proximity to migratory birds' flight paths and the
opportunity to enhance the property's natural areas and wildlife habitat. The
designation fits closely with the association's efforts to develop and
implement a comprehensive ecological plan for the golf course. (Read more about
the Ecological Master Plan.)
Congratulations, Canal Shores!

Natural
Habitat Evanston and the Community
Habitat Network will lead bird walks and provide interactive presentations
on birds, natural habitat, and restoration of the North Shore Channel and
Evanston parks. One free tree or shrub will be given to the first 50 families
or households attending the event, first come first served. The event will take place on Sunday, May 7 from
2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Evanston Ecology Center, 2024 McCormick Blvd.
Plan to stop by Centennial Park on Central Street for plants for your garden on Friday, May 12 and Saturday, May 13, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Evanston Garden Fair is sponsored by the Lincolnwood Garden Club of Evanston, with support from the City of Evanston. It will feature perennials from garden club members' gardens, annuals, hanging baskets, and beautiful containers. Master gardeners will be on hand to offer advice, and Random Acts of Flowers will be there to collect your unwanted vases. Proceeds from the fair are given back to the community as grants for local garden-related projects.
