Next ward meeting scheduled for October 20

Mark your calendars for a 6th Ward meeting on Thursday, October 20 at 7 p.m.,Three Crowns Park, 2323 McDaniel Avenue, Multi-purpose Room. The agenda will include city staff reports, in addition to presentations by Districts 65 and 202 school board presidents.

Fall 2016 bulk trash pick-ups

The City of Evanston offers residents the free removal of up to six cubic yards of bulk garbage twice per year. Fall 2016 bulk trash pick-ups will take place on Fridays, October 7 through 28, and are scheduled according to residents’ normal refuse pick-up day.
Bulk trash pick-up for residents whose normal refuse collection day is:

• Thursday will be Friday, October 7

• Monday will be Friday, October 14

• Tuesday will be Friday, October 21

• Wednesday will be Friday, October 28

Text/email bulk trash reminders

Residents can sign up for text or email notifications to remind them of bulk trash pick-up. Notifications are sent out two weeks prior to the bulk trash-pick-up day, and again two days prior to the bulk trash pick-up day. Participate in the Pace/CTA North Shore Coordination Plan

Pace and CTA invite you and residents, visitors and employees in the North Shore area to an open house to discuss the Pace/CTA North Shore Coordination Plan. The open houses will be held on Tuesday, October 4 and Wednesday, October 5.

Water Treatment Facility Tours II: October 8

Saturday, October 8, 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Evanston Water Treatment Facility, 555 Lincoln Street, Evanston, IL

The City of Evanston’s Water Production Bureau will provide two tours of the Evanston Water Treatment Facility, located at 555 Lincoln Street. on Saturday, October 8, on a first-come/first-served basis. The first tour will be given from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. for residents age 15 years and older. A second “child friendly” tour will follow from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. for residents with children age 6 years or older. Anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult. All adults are required to provide photo identification Water facility tours are limited to the first 30 people who sign up for each group, and all must be Evanston residents. 

To register, please call 847-448-8198 or email water@cityofevanston.org by Wednesday, October 5. All participants must provide their name, address, phone number and the names of all the individuals who will be attending in their group. Walk-in registration will not be available.

Parking will be available at the Water Treatment Facility via the driveway located on the north side of Lincoln Street, between the two buildings. Please arrive at the facility 20 minutes before the tour start time, as admittance to the facility will not be permitted once the tours have started.

The Evanston Community Foundation (ECF) will host the Public Service Challenge (PSC) training workshop from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, October 15 at the Joseph E. Hill Education Center, 1500 McDaniel Avenue, in Evanston. The Public Service Challenge seeks to give potential candidates and campaign workers a strong basis of essential knowledge to be an effective public servant and real practical skills and knowledge about running effective local campaigns. 

PSC is open to any interested citizen wishing to learn more about how to be a candidate or how to run an effective campaign. The program is presented by a coalition of civic minded organizations including the Evanston Community Foundation, the League of Women Voters, the NAACP, the Evanston Chamber of Commerce and the District 65 PTA Council. This workshop aims to enhance community engagement and effective governance.

Have "Coffee with Cop" October 7

October 7, 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.  First Slice Pie Cafe, 1823 Church Street, Evanston, IL The City of Evanston, Evanston Police Department and Evanston Citizen Police Academy Alumni Association invite community members to attend “Coffee with a Cop” on Friday, October 7, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at First Slice Pie Cafe, 1823 Church Street. Attendees will have the opportunity to join members of the Evanston Police Department Problem Solving Team for a chat to ask questions, share concerns or simply talk about sports while sipping their morning “cup-o-joe.”

The Young and Restless Storytime: New on the West Side
